The pistol needs to be nerfed. Now. Before you say "Oh you're just tired of being killed by it," I main spy, and I use the revolver more than my knife, and I think it needs to be nerfed. Here are my reasons.
1. You Are A SPY! You are a spy, you're objective is to be SNEAKY, you should be working very hard not to get caught, if you do get caught, you should die. The skill of a spy should be based around how well he is at infiltrating, stabbing and getting out. A weapon like the revolver is immensely powerful at close range, you can kill most classes without even reloading, if you can land 4 out of 6 of the shots. This should not be the case, you should not be able to overpower a class at close range. You should not even have a relatively decent chance of getting out if you get caught. One of the most frustrating things in this game is when you see a spy (especially if you're an engie) and you pump a few shotgun blasts into him, or go to melee him and he kills you with just a few shots. You discovered he's a spy, he did his job poorly, he should die.
2. Accuracy The pistol is ridiculously accurate, once you learn to compensate for the "clunkiness" of the firing. Don't give me a bullshit response of "oh but it's hard to aim!" because take about 5 hours of practice with it, and you will never have problems aiming it again. The whole concept of making a weapon hard to aim in order to balance it is ridiculous. All it does is make the rich richer and the poor poorer. The people who have had a decent amount of time practicing with the weapon will be able to use it in a godly way, whereas newcomers won't be able to use it well at all. Load up an empty 2fort server, and fire across the bridge at the barrels. 4 out of 6 times you will hit it. As I said before, 4 out of 6 shots will down most classes. See an engie running towards you as spy? No problem, just blast him with the pistol a couple times and you're golden.
That's all of them really....
Solution.
Make the gun a stealthy gun. Put a scilencer on it, this gun should be used as a last resort at close range, and shouldn't be very good. It should be used to take out players from far away in the heat of the battle, more of a support weapon than anythign else. Used to finish off wounded players, rather than rambo it up.

I see your points, but I would have to disagree. I think the Revolver is perfectly balanced, but hey, thats just me. True, I have had a few gay deaths from a Spy vs. Me when I should be able to win. On the other hand, if I could aim better, I would always win these situations. I do get your acuracy argument, though
I want to see what some other people think

I think its balanced.
If all the spy had was an insta-kill backstab, crappy normal melee, and a crappy primary, then how do you expect to kill anything without using the one scenarios of backstabbing?
Snipers have insta-kill headshots, decent damage noscopes, decent secondary (if you can aim it), and decent melee. :\

Well the thing is, it's only a great gun if you can shoot it, which a lot of people can't. But your points still valid. I would totally love to see a nerfed revolver And a better butterfly knife / something contributing to sneakiness. Edit: Ooh, a silencer. Didn't read that far before I posted. Yea for an update he's probably gonna get nerfed but almost silent volvy. I hope it's shiny.

revolver is wicked strong narf

Short answer- No.
Long answer- No, and here's why. Spies get discovered all the time due to the numerous fallacies their disguise has, and the fact that the class depends a lot on luck and player alertness. Hence a spy will often be caught out no matter how careful he is. He needs a reliable weapon to escape with. Yes, he can pull off a kill trying to escape, but a lot of the time this will be in enemy territory, and will die pretty quickly. As a long time engineer I've only had a few instances when a spy's shot me, but most of the time it's because I've been silly and charged him without dodging.
Silencer might be nice; it seems silly that a spy, a secret agent, gets a ridiculously loud and distinctive weapon. Maybe a silencer should be an unlock, not a flat out change.

The main thing that makes revolver useful is the element of surprise, which is an inherent property of the spy class (and thus a good thing). It's a decent weapon up close and at mid-range, but horribly inaccurate and weak at long range. The main thing is that if an enemy has a fair fight with you up close, they usually can kill you faster than you can pop a few shots off. (2 shotguns up close for an engie, etc.) If you are tricky with the spacing you have a shot at it, but the majority of the time that the person is aware of you, the spy will lose the fight.
The only thing I could imagine nerfing is the critical on it. The gun not diminishing on buildings is a brilliant decision by VALVe (makes building sniping possible), but because the damage is concentrated into 1 bullet, it shouldn't crit for 120 at any range. A slight dropoff on the criticals would be a good change.

Fix the backstab first, then consiter the revolver. ATM is fine.

i think the spies have it hard enough as it is..
no need to take something else away..
granted, this is coming from your's truly, the world's unluckiest spy [i need to trademark that]
let's just say the really long range and accuracy of the revolver cancels out the crapiness of the backstab..
and call me crazy.. but

that just sounds crazy to me..
as a spy, i almost always die with 2 shots from any gun.. basically, if i miss my backstab, i DO die..
now, remember, i'm THE WORLD'S UNLUCKIEST SPY and i seem to get crit'd wayyyyyyy too much..
i can remember THREE SEPERATE OCCASIONS just LAST NIGHT where i was killed in ONE shot from the engy's precious wrench..
when i hear spy, and nerf, anywhere near each other, i have to chuckle for a bit..
