Nerfed or Buffed

People say some advanced techniques are harder to do, with quickstabs being removed.  The range is shortened.  And facestabs are no more.  But was the spy patch a nerf or a buff?

I don't play on the PC...but I have seen nothing but complaints so it just seemed like it was a nerf.  From what I would gather of the update, it would made Great spies slightly greater.....but make mediocre spies vastly better.



What about step-backs and non-registering stabs?  Are those things of the past?

Its a buff imo.  The faster stab does help with the hit detection problem with the backstab.

Couldn't significant lag be theoretically reduced with a better net code? Crysis Wars doesn't have the same problems, when you shoot someone in the head, you shoot them in the head. People are where they are, except for the occasional player with multiple quantum states from leaving pen torrent programs while they play.

Lag is much more noticable with melee weapons then with projectile weapons. In actuality, the shotgun, for example, misses just as much as the knife does, it's just when one shotty pellet doesn't register correctly, it doesn't make as much difference as when you've got one chance to land your knife. The game needs to not only calculate whether your knife is close enough to hit the person, but also whether both you and your target are oriented correctly for a backstab, which can cause non-registering and face stabs. Most of the old 'advanced spy techniques' were just there to compensate for lag interference, so when they removed the lift, they're not as needed, or effective as a regular stab anymore. It's still possible to pull the side and height stabs, but you don't need to worry about the lift, so the timings are different.
Also, when you say you hear only complaints, please disregard anything from Steam forums and (most) ESG.
