Does anybody have any experience with these? I'm looking to get one for school next fall, but I don't know what to look for.

It's really really uncomfortable to type out on a netbook, just letting you know.

To add to that, the touch pads are tiny and really annoying to navigate with. My dad has an Asus Aspire 1, it sucks the big one to type and move the mouse around with, but it does what it's supposed to. Apparently the dell netbooks are good.

it also hurts your eyes if you stay on it for too long since most screens are only 10~12 inches

My hands are somewhere between small and medium, and I have little trouble typing on mine (at about 80% of normal speed, but that's enough). I only use it to take to class, and it works totally fine for that.

Just be sure to get the 1 gig of RAM version instead of the 512... even if you use it for nothing but class.

I plan to use it mostly for that, but to say I'd never play SC online with it would be a lie. Do they typically have USB ports, or are they too small? How do I 3G internets?

My Acer Aspire One has either 3 or 4 USB ports. Can't remember. If by SC you mean Starcraft, it'd be 10000% capable of doing that.

Dunno about 3G.

i had an Asus EEE 1000H. I didn't like it. It was flimsy, poorly built, loud fan, and slow.

Oh yeah the fans on all netbooks I've seen are... weirdly loud when they turn on. Generally they don't, though, unless you're doing something pretty intense.

If you can, wait. Netbooks are good for the occasional browsing of the internet and typing a email or something, but wait. Nvidia Ion netbooks are coming out this fall and should at least allow you to watch hulu/youtube without epic lag.
