Hey TF2F,
I am new to the competitive side of TF2, and have just started PuGing. I have been using the scout as I find his ability to be there and then gone, while taking out enemy players. I have been watching some of my demos that I have recorded from these first few PuG's in order to find what I need to improve on. Needless to say, it's a lot. I would appreciate it if anyone (expecially the more experienced scouts) would give me some tips on what I do wrong as well as what I do decently (if anything xD).

So far what I have found from personally viewing them:
-Need to take more time and make sure shots hit, expecially on Medic pick attempts
-Need to utilize the second scout on my team, two at once is better than one... than a second
-I need to make sure that my movements are not as linear, from watching a couple pro demos, they are strafing a TON more than I am.

Thank you guys for taking the time to help me out, it is appreciated.

The demo is here: http://www.filefront.com/14289321/scout2.dem

Disclaimer- The demo you are about to (hopefully) view contains lots of poor positioning, terrible movement, and multiple horribley failed medic picks (one is expecially aweful).

Hi Mint!

Before anything else, you should be aware of your role while playing Scout. You seem to realize that you should not be 1v1ing soldiers at all times or anything like that, but rather, observing the battle and picking off weak players, flanking to get an important pick, and keeping their Scouts off of your team (in particular your Demoman and Medic).

First off, movement. In a battle against a hitscan class (Scout, Sniper, etc.) you'll want to strafe erratically to make it difficult for them to keep their crosshair on you. Against classes like Soldiers with explosive weapons, you'll want to make your strafes more long and fluid; avoid getting too close unless they're out of rockets or they don't notice you, because they can easily shoot their feet once and you'll be finished.

For aim, you should at first take the time to line up the enemy and make every shot count; don't waste your six shots and then frantically try to reload and shoot 1 at a time. As you keep playing, your aim should naturally improve. You can also play in Deathmatch servers to practice raw aiming, although if you're not careful and take DM practice out of context it could end up giving you some bad habits. PM me or add me on Steam at Spookyman_x if you want the server info for some Deathmatch servers.

I can help you in person if you need it. I also have some demos you could watch that might help you if you're interested. Again, PM me or add my Steam if you wish.

Use your strafing to help you aim as well. If you play sniper much you'll know what I mean, sometimes your quick movement is actually helpful for aiming.

Looks like you are doing fine to me...just practice.

Be mindful of where your combo is going, and guard any flankable entrances.
