I have a Wii and I've seen Super Smash Bros on the gamecube and it looked like a ton of fun. I'll probably rent it first to see how I like it on the Wii but wanted to see what I could expect from people that have played it before.

I'm reading the review on 1up.com and it says the game supports the classic controller, the N64 controller and the wii + Nunchuck setup. What do you guys play with and what would work best for a new player?

I'm not a nintendo fan boy by any means ( I have a NES and SNES still but never owned a N64 or Gamecube so some of the characters in the game are unfamiliar to me) but the game looks like a blast. Not sure if I can get the wife to play against me in a fighting game so I may depend on you guys and try the friend codes for online play. How does it work over wireless?

If you are mildly interested in the game, I would suggest buying it. For $50 its a great game with a lot of gameplay value.

I just got it last night and am trying to learn it with the wiimote+nunchuck.  If you have a Wii, there's no sense in not getting it if you've ever bought a game for it, because it's definitely one of the best XD

P.S.  It supports the gamecube controller, not the n64 controller

The great thing about Super Smash Bros. is that it's relatively easy to pick up. Once you feel comfortable playing it, you might want to get into competitive gaming to better the experience.

I recommend you check out Smash Boards (url: http://smashboards.com) for tips and discussions. It's a great place to start.

I think the gamecube controller is most intuitive, but i've also been using it for years.

Buy a Classic or GameCube controller because the Wiimote and Nunchuk combo feels awkward and lacks a C-Stick — a C-Stick is used for advanced tactics and makes basic attacks easier.

The online feature disappointed me; I'm glad it's there, but it's nothing compared to Xbox Live. Getting a game started is difficult because there's no built-in way to invite someone to a game. Unless your friend periodically checks his Brawl-specific friends list, you'll have to call him up and tell him to get online to join your game. Also, it lags once you get going — I get a half second delay at best and sometimes it's unplayable. It is free, but I'd rather pay monthly for a seamless online experience like Xbox Live.

It's a must buy, but I've been a huge fan since the original on the N64. I play with my good old Wavebird (GC controller ). It just works the best and feels right.

Just rented this last night and played for like 4 hours. Single player classic mode I think, basically went through a tourney against computer players. I'm using the wiimote currently but plan on borrowing my bro-in-laws GC controller. Have some pretty basic questions:

1. How the hell do you recover from falling off the edge of a map? certain characters just seemed doomed and no amount of jumping (pressing up on the wiimote directional pad) gets their ass back up there. I settled on Meta Knight because I had the best luck not falling to my doom and he seems really fast and powerful.

2. Do you use the block/shield much? With the wiimote the block button is the B trigger which I found awkward to use so I ended up not using it. If I end up liking the GC controller better I may not have this issue.

Come to think of it most of my questions relate to controls and basics of how to play, I feel like a total newb button masher. I checked out smashboards.com but most of their forums seemed above my level of understanding of the game honestly, talking about air jumps and air dodges, up smashes/down smashes. I guess I just need to learn the lingo and maybe play some more.

Would you guys recommend the quest mode or whatever it's called or just continue with the single classic mode of tourney play to learn how to fight better? I've already unlocked marth, ness, luigi and someone else that I can't think of............
