No scoping

If you were to be able to hit 100% with your rifle without having to zoom in, would noscoping be more useful that using your SMG or machete at close to mid range? Also, how much damage does the rifle do without having to scope in? Is it the same as having no charge when scoped?

About 50 damage when noscoped. 150 damage for a headshot with no charge when scoped.

unofficially, ill confirm that. Ive never got a crit noscope, and I live by noscoping. Its kinda like riding a bike. after a month or two, you are just as accurate without crosshair as you are with, but Ive never got a crit headshot noscope, bloodied a lot of faces tho. Also the 50 damage, you have to have either kukri'd them, or be about to...

Oh ok I see, I was just wondering how efficient it is. I've been playing Marathon and the game doesn't have a crosshair, so I figured that I might as well try doing that as a sniper in TF2. Well, ok since the machete is better at close range, would it be a better idea to try to no scope them as they come towards you then machete, or is the SMG still better at mid to close range, then using the machete?

well, In my opinion, if you are holding the rifle, and you can get a quick shot in before switching weapons, then the noscoped rifle is a quick easy 50 points if you can hit them anywhere. the smg is pretty useless, doing about 8-12 damage at medium range (i think), so unless you have the time to empty a full clip into them (ie they are running away from you) I find it better to noscope once, then switch to kukri for the kill as the range closes in.

I think this would be very situational though. Provided that the enemy is aware of your presence, I probably wouldn't charge a soldier with my melee enless he was already in range. The same holds true for many other classes. In fact, I would argue that the no scope - smg combo is fairly effective in self-defense.

If an enemy was coming at you, I suppose you could try to go at them with your melee after the no scope but I have a feeling it would probably end in disaster for you.

A soldier has 200hp. you noscope him. he now has 150. A Full clip of smg does about 140 damage if you hit every single bullet into the guy. This takes about 5 seconds.
The rocket launcher can fire off 2-3 rockets in this time period. The splash damage from these rockets missing you will kill you.
If you are charging with melee, the soldier most likely will miss you with splash because he was firing where he thought you would be assuming that noone in thier right mind would try and take on his uber godliness in single combat. 3 kukri hits kills him. 1 if he gets himself with blast trying to kill you.

Never use the SMG unless your opponent is weak and you're just using it to pick off enemies.  It's only really useful when it fires critical hits.

I suppose you could no scope an enemy to bring down his health and then take out your machete, but hopefully if you get a criticial melee you'll do so much damage that it wouldn't make a significant difference.

I'm 100% positive that at some point no scopes could headshot and get the extra damage. However it was a long time ago when it happened to me so it might have been changed.
