There are times I go online and I'm *on fire*. Hitting scouts in mid-jump with a well timed grenade, healing comrades on every side and nailing foes with a shower of needles. Just really in the flow of the game, moving and grooving, dominating right and left.
Then there are other times I am like a lame tortoise. I keep bumping into bits of scenery, can't decide what to build or where, and get killed about every 10 seconds.

Some of it is the rest of the team, of course. A lot of it is me, there are just good days and bad days and if it's a bad day the only thing to do is pack up and go home.

Does anyone else have this kind of variable performance?

Sometimes I make great pipe shots and others I wiff all 4. I guess a lot of it is luck/map/teams but some days my reflexes are just blah.

So yeah, I feel your pain.

Absolutely.

But this isn't just with TF2. Many gamers have experienced this type of problem when dealing with other players and even dealing with themselves.  A lot of the times it really deals with what type of mood you're mind is in.  At least it does for myself.

Yes, definitely see it in sports, like Michael Vaughn's batting this test series.

This happens in every game, but you just notice it more in games like TF2. i tend to play better when im in a good mood, and playing well puts me in an even better mood .

Yea I have those a lot. I was playing in last Sundays SPUG and i was being an absolute fail Heavy. Me medic called me a horrible Heavy with kinda made me mad so then my being all mad made me play bad, which made me madder, which made me play worse, which made me madder, which made me play EVEN worse... I think you get the idea. If you start well you will play great, If not you will suck. I agree with Rednu66 and lastrival, it depends alot on your mood.

Also, when I'm playing for a long time, I have noticed that I hit a wall. Take Last night.... I played the best round on Goldrush I had ever played. I was "On Fire", as you would say, and then when I got tired, or bored with the game.... whatever it really is, I just start to suck.  I begin to suck so bad that Ijust stop caring and stop talking to my team, this is when I call the game I'm in, "The Last Game of the Night". Playing beyond this point will only make you worse. Get some sleep. Or in my case, try to sleep then realize you can't sleep for some unknown reason and then surf the internets... like i am right now...
