With the recent release ( I say recent loosely ) as a veteran pyro player I'm finding it difficult to pick between my back burner and my regular flame thrower.  The flare gun versus the shot gun also leaves me in limbo because they are both equally as useful to me.

I don't think I need to tell you why I would like either of the weapons...but if I need too...

Back burner - Heavies are now marshmallows, while without the compression blast clearing CP's is now quite difficult in comparison

Normal - With the loss of the backwards critical the gameplay now becomes more combat/survival versus other classes, with the compression blast defending yourself and "Blocking" others now becomes more infinitely useful.  It's an easier defending as well as attacking weapon without it's back guarenteed crit.

and now...our shotgun...

shotgun - Better for damage and old companion, Scout/Spy dispatcher at range and packs one hell of a critical punch.

Flame gun - Used for longer ranges and best for harrassing players who you want to flame for damage, Tends to be more effective with snipers because of its "arc" you can use it to your advantage, Best for longer maps but is overall useful verses EVERYTHING but PYRO.

so....as a veteran asking the community (Veteran player not poster) which would be best for the old school version pyro.

I'm use to ganking, Blazing, Hit and run, As well as point block, and choke blocks.

I average about 153 as pyro in most of my games (Very rough average)

I don't know what are your definition of old school or new school pyro, but I assume I am a new school pyro influenced by the styles of Rizz and Ninja Dude, as such, I tend to use the regular flamer, the shotgun and the axtinguisher.

You should come play on our servers, I'm sure you'll have a blast

Base your choice on the classes of the other team. If there's a heavy and medics, backburner will be useful. If there are many soldiers and demomen, the airblast is useful. If there are many snipers, use a flare gun. If there are many scouts, use a shotgun. The only thing that you should stick with 100% is the axtinguisher.

I use all those terms very loosely because they are all in the eye of the beholder.

Like old school to me is everything besides the axtinguisher because the new axe (no offence to people who are fans of the old) is just awesome and what the doctor *hehe medic joke* ordered.

My usual games when I can play with my hectic recent schedule is~

Lotus:2fort 24/7 - usually in the afternoon around 6:00ish
and
Doormanisgod:Warpath 24/7 - same schedule.

I don't believe in reservations for a free to play after you've bought it game.  That just milks the players of more money for things that are optional.

For curiousity sake:

My setup is the back burner, shotgun, axtinguisher but often times i think I could play better otherwise and I score about the same every round so it's of no consequence as too what other players believe, I just hoped for another opinion so I could make an educated guess with the communities help to improve my pyro game.

Especially the Nomnom server.

Everybody should be able to use all their weapons, don't simply pick one, get good with both, and find out when you should use one over the other.  Its not hard to change, and you can change whenever you spawn, so it would be very bad to limit yourself to either, take both. Personally i find that the combo that so many people use, which is posted in the quote, is more effective for me, but i will often switch my weapons depending on the situation. Unless its a blatant replacement ( Ubersaw, blutsauger, KGB ) there really isn't any reason not to know and utilize all the weapons in your arsenal.

captaincorrecto: In the TF2F servers, I can guarantee you that you will improve your play after a few weeks of gaming. There are some exceptional pyros in this community and I have learned a lot from them, and so will you.

Do you have a prefered server for me to try out?

I can give any server a whirl just as long as it has an open slot for another pyro

The only difficult situation I ever run into in any of my servers is when I get into a conflict with another good pyro, The only misconception when I state this is that I usually die, No the difference is I take damage.  I'm use to accurate run gun non damaging taking style fighting (average deaths per game is about 3 because of lucky soldiers) and I'm usually in the heat of things.

What map is this server played on and the I.P. please~

Edit: that is extremely odd

side note: I usually like to do something where I know the player background is somewhat of a challenge and with the recent heavy update the lotus and doorman server got a difficulty bump (nothing that the average pyro can't handle) but I still find it difficult to switch servers because of the new client base.  I don't know the faces, I don't know the usual routes, It becomes more of a "blind" game and that's not how a tactical players like to play.  I make it sound as if I haven't played any other map but from all my playing these have become my "favorite" servers.  Lotus clan is also one of my favorite groups to play with as a part clan part non-clan game because they always try and offer advice or chew you out if you trump them~

That doesn't help, but I do know your point.  I am well aware of this

Regular Flamethrower, Shotgun, Axetinguisher.
My mentality is that if you're behind them and in flamethrower range, they'll probably die before they turn around anyways.

Also, I took a break right before the Heavy Update came out....but what's the general consensus on the loadouts?

Chompa says KGB is a blatant replacement, but I've heard it's only useful w/ the shotgun (logical).
I've heard mixed reviews on the Sandvich, and I've heard Sasha>Natascha.

Edit:
In response to the below comment: IPs may be found in the top right of our site.
They're this site's resident servers.

And the mapS(!!!) depend on the server.

1 map servers are NOT good for you...nor is limiting yourself to two maps (1 of which is horrible, 2fort)

Note to Admins: it says his post is after mine, but when I post a second post (the "Edit") it puts the edit before his post.....weird.

Why all the hate for the Fireaxe? I find it extremely useful. I used to use the Axtinguisher a lot but I really sucked. I would get into melee combat, kill the guy. Turn around and there is another guy not on fire. I have to switch to my flamer, light him up, and switch back. Then I have to wait for the 20 second respawn. With the Fireaxe, Mouse 1, Mouse 1. And he's down. Well following Razor's post about his new quest I am using his build. I didn't bother displaying it because it would've been insignifigant.

 On open Maps(badlands,gravelpit, and badwater)
Backburner
Flaregun
FireAxe

 Closed Maps(well, dustbowl, and turbine)
Flamer
Shotty
FireAxe

I do use the Axtinguisher but I just find that the FireAxe better fits my playstyle. (Yes, even with crits off.)
