I figure many ppl here have seen this, but there was a recent discussion on here about MW2 and I thought this comic was pretty funny. They are obviously making fun of all the crazy ppl on forums going ape shit about the decision.
IW had a recent quote saying they were putting the games in the hands of the players and not the modders. Umm... The modders ARE the players, IW.
IW has built an XBox live matchmaking system (IW.NET) for the PC for this game. They are doing this for two reasons : Piracy and Bonus Game Content Control. This system gives them control over who plays the game and HOW they play the game. You can't play the game online without a legit copy and you can't go to fpsbanana to get new maps and shit for MW2, you gotta go to IW.Marketplace.net or some bullshit and pay for em. The whole situation has VERY little to do with putting the game in the hands of the players. IMO it's quite the opposite.
I look at the successful games on the PC (in relatable genres), and they are not like this. Turning a PC into a Console is not how to make a successful PC Game. Embrace what makes the PC unique (like what Valve does with its games) and you will be successful and fan loved.
I was going to buy this game on the PC, largely due to the dedicated server benefits. Now I am just gonna get it on console (probably) cause I'll have friends with it on there and I will play with them.
It will of course remain to be seen how this all plays out, but I don't see great success really. Of course it's also irrelevant. That game is going to sell gangbusters on consoles.
