Disclaimer: I haven't seen the second movie, and I just like to argue. But according to Ebert even the AWESOME FIGHTING SPACE ROBOTS weren't that awesome.

It's a movie. About giant robots. Based on a 80s cartoon. What are you expecting here?

I didn't expect some of the favorite characters from my childhood to take a backseat to Shia Lebouf (sp? actually, dont care) and Megan Fox, just to be reduced to ridiculously dumb schtick (the backyard scene... wtf) and indicipherable fight scenes.

EDIT:  And to make it perfectly clear, I was born in 1985, and caught SOME of the cartoons, but not nearly enough to form any opinion on how the characters SHOULD act based on the cartoon.  However, I had a ton of Transformers action figures and loved the crap out of them because they were so god damned cool.  The movie did nothing but make the Transformers look tragically uncool, IMO.

I did not go to watch to Transformers expecting to see a deep plot, well written dialogue, or clever characters. I saw it to see giant robots kick the crap out of each other.

Maybe I am just old, but I need a movie to have at least some sort of plot.  Micheal Bay makes porno with special effects instead of sex.

The awesome robots don't even look awesome. They look strange and unclear, like jumbled messes. The CGI is technically impressive but artistically kind of lousy. They don't really look like the old transformers, nor do they look like Realistic Space Bots since they make such little visual sense.
I didn't see the first movie cause it looked miserable. I won't see the second one cause it also looks miserable!
