yeah, i said it. because it's true. the whole series was a glorified commercial for Hasbro. now that doesn't mean it wasn't fun to watch, as fighting robots always are, but come on? who seriously expected the movie to be anything more than a glorified commercial for Hasbro (and the Army, and GM, and Xbox and Mountain Dew) with really, really cool-looking giant robots?
Yeah, but you neglect the fact that it was a comic book series, too. Die-hard fans of GI Joe and Transformers read the comics - and in the comics, the stories and characters were much more fleshed out. I would actually suggest that some of you guys pick up those old issues instead of going to what will inevitably be a waste of time and money.
Then there was the GI Joe vs Transformers crossover, which kicked ass.
In fact, GI Joe was so well written at one point (written by Vietnam veteran Larry Hama), it was nominated for several awards. Hama was also the man responsible for writing about 98% of the file cards (cut off the back of the action figure backing boards), and later on they even created a character "Tunnel Rat" based on Hama's likeness (the character being an explosives disposal technician... exactly the job Hama perfomed while serving.)
