Roger Ebert has zero credibility. Any person who gives Gigli more stars than Gladiator has some serious problems.

I'll say it once, and I'll say it again, Miyazaki films creep me the fuck out. They're so goddamned strange, it makes me feel uncomfortable watching it.

The expression on his face is pretty much the same one I have on my face whenever I'm watching a Miyazaki movie.

I found Princess Mononoke a bit boring when I tried to watch it several times over the last decade or so - but you still can't deny it's awesome visual appeal and originality.  Tutoro is a personal favorite since it was my introduction to matching the name to his work.  For some reason, I enjoyed Kiki a lot.  I think, because I've watched it so many times with friends as an "anime primer" of sorts (along with Tutoro), it grew on me.

But the greatest movie he's ever made is Spirited Away.  There's just so much to it.

Ponyo looks like it's going to be even better... it really does.  And that's VERY hard to imagine.

Whats so strange about a young girls journey into the suburbs then into the spirit world as her parents are turned into pigs before she makes a journey through stink spirits no faced demons and oh wait

WHOA! lets bash Transformers and stay the FUCK away from Miyazaki. That man is an artist, and spirited away is one of the best cartoon POSSIBLE, let alone ever.

Oh No You Didn't!

Don't be talking trash about my man Ebert.  Besides it only takes a moment of google-fu to realize that you don't know what the hell you are talking about.

Gigli = 2 1/2 Stars

Gladiator = 3 Stars

This just goes to establish that you have zero credibility.  (However, seeing as how that is your first and only post, I smell a troll anyways.)  Say what you will about the overall merits of each film if you reread his reviews I think his ratings of each film are well justified.

Also BigLou to address your GIANT FREAKING ROBOTS comments, you are most certainly correct that sometimes it is fun to just watch things go sploddey, sploddey KABOOM! I certainly can not argue with that.  However, The problem with Transformers as a whole is that it doesn't even do the explosions and giant freaking robots well.  The CGI in the first movie is a mess of swirling incomprehensible CGI metal.  If this type of stuff entertains you, you should just start sticking tin cans in a garbage disposal and save yourself the 10 bucks.   Perhaps I am biased here being a huge 80's Transformers fan, but if you compare the two iterations of the universe the more character driven focus of the cartoon is far more appealing to me.   However, when I think of Transformers that is what I expect and want.   Why can't things be all spoddey and have good character?  We even know that Michael Bay is capable of it.  We've seen "The Rock".

Firstly, I did not find the CGI confusing or incomprehensible in the first movie.  I found it quite amazing--it made perfect sense to me.

Secondly, I don't appreciate the correlations some people are throwing around for someone who enjoys the movie.

Thirdly, Ebert is a film critic.  Transformers is not a film, it's a summer popcorn flick.  I completely agree with the guy, as the movie is stupid.  But will I take his review literally?  No, I plan on watching the movie and being fully entertained for 2 hours.

I have to agree with Joseph on this one.  Gladiator wasn't a groundbreaking film, but it was a very good movie.  But you know what, critique is heavily preferential, and as such, you can never go by reviews alone.  Simply said, if something interests you, and you like it, no critic on Earth can tell you otherwise.
