i actually i really liked gladiator.  i'm just pointing out that Ebert gave it 2 stars, not 3.  thus he did rate it lower than Gigli.

but yeah - internet ratings are just some other dude's opinion at the end of the day, and opinions are like armpits - they grow hair naturally but in various cultures some people (sometimes men and women) shave them.

Just in recent memory, the first two X-Men, both of the recent Batman, Ironman and the most recent Star Trek movies could all easily be considered summer popcorn flicks (i'm pretty sure they all released in the summer). And every one of them was able to give you enough character building so that you actually gave even the slightest little bit of shit about what happened to them.

The entirety of the Transformer/Decepticon dialogue could probably be typed up on a single page. Double-spaced.

Having explosions and developing your characters aren't mutually exclusive. It's lazy film-making.

I think we could run up a good movie plot like that no problem, in a few days.

Alien green babe: "Darling, I'm pregnant"

Texan steel worker: "Thats amazing! I-"

Counter terrorist: "GET DOWN"

Snoopy et al: "OH SHI-"

Lazy ass film makers. Its amazing I'm not getting paid for this

Thist isn't a review, just my 2¢.  I went to the midnight showing of this last night and I have to say that I was decently entertained for 2.5h.  Yeah, you can call it "Explosions: The Movie" or "GM: The Movie," since you wouldn't be far off, but it was a fun, good time.  The story isn't deep, but there isn't much more I expected from an action movie/cartoon adaptation and I feel that the story quality was good enough to work.  I got sick of the "shit jokes" and the other annoying humor that popped up much too often early on, but they were stemmed off later. I was impressed with the increased screen time of the decepticons because they cut out more of the bullshit with extra human backstory from Transformers 1.  I have to admit, I was really happy to see the Megatron/Starscream duo so much more because it brought back the nastalgia factor for me (Megatron handing Starscream's ass to him throughout the movie).  Transformers 2 seems to kind of be what Transformers 1 was trying to achieve.  Now, they did lay out the foundation for another sequel, but I hope they don't go past that since the story would definitely be running on fumes at that point.  All in all, there were a lot of "meh" parts that didn't need to be there, but more "awesome" parts to make up for it.

I saw it last night as well, and this is exactly what I was gonna say.

Basically, had potential to have super-killer CGI stuff, but took  that away and replaced it with childish jokes and an ok plot. There was still some good CGI, but there was room to do way more with it.

The first movie was god awful. I wasn't expecting much for this one. I'm sure his review is better than the actual movie.

Are guys fucking kidding me?  Gladiator was HORRIBLE.   What DREK.  It was *so* trying to be Braveheart and failed on every single level - historical and otherwise.  I was bored to tears.

I love action movies. And SciFi movies. Insane Action / SciFi is probably my #1 genre of choice. However, Michael Bay sucks cock and his movies blow.

I don't really believe in "mindless" movies. Defending something by saying it's purposefully "mindless" just means it's bad.  I dont want to pay 10 dollars to see something that mostly sucks and has like a few cool scenes. That sounds like a dumb thing to do. I have seen many good action movies and many good scifi movies. That means you can make a good one!

These transformers movies are not good. The whole "sound and fury, signifying nothing" quote pretty much sums up Michael Bay's career. I dont really want to be a part of that.
