Yeah, you can call it "Explosions: The Movie" or "GM: The Movie," since you wouldn't be far off, but it was a fun, good time. The story isn't deep, but there isn't much more I expected from an action movie/cartoon adaptation and I feel that the story quality was good enough to work. I got sick of the "shit jokes" and the other annoying humor that popped up much too often early on, but they were stemmed off later. I was impressed with the increased screen time of the decepticons because they cut out more of the bullshit with extra human backstory from Transformers 1. I have to admit, I was really happy to see the Megatron/Starscream duo so much more because it brought back the nastalgia factor for me (Megatron handing Starscream's ass to him throughout the movie). Transformers 2 seems to kind of be what Transformers 1 was trying to achieve. Now, they did lay out the foundation for another sequel, but I hope they don't go past that since the story would definitely be running on fumes at that point. All in all, there were a lot of "meh" parts that didn't need to be there, but more "awesome" parts to make up for it.
I saw it last night as well, and this is exactly what I was gonna say.
Basically, had potential to have super-killer CGI stuff, but took that away and replaced it with childish jokes and an ok plot. There was still some good CGI, but there was room to do way more with it.
