What does it mean to protect your medic?  I've seen confusion on this issue, and sometimes outright disdain.  The idea that the medic can look after himself as he's keeping you alive is somthing that seem ludicris to me.

I am Heavy Weapons guy ... I have spawned ... the nice doctor has hit me with the glowing beam.  I have 'sasha' with me ... I feel good.  Time to kill!!!

So ... when this happy heavy tears into the battle, 'sasha' blazing into the enemy .. what is the enemy thinking? here's a hint:

The Protip

If you have a medic with you ... he immediately becomes the number one target in the room ... beleive me.  He has less than half the heavy's health, and despite his meager regen, he's very vulnrable to damage, unlike you.  The fact that you can see your medic's health is important.

Another thing, anyone who thinks that playing medic doesn't take skill has another thing coming ... especially when it comes to supporting another class.   You have relatively little say in where you go and what you do with that glowing leash tying you to that heavy, demoman or soldier.   If there's a health drop on the other side of the room, the heavy has to stop healing you in order to run to it.

Please ... do your medic a favor, when he's getting banged up, don't just pull back, find the nearest health drop or dispenser and let him heal before returning ... this also gives you opportune time to find more ammo, AND it allows you some downtime to let the medic charge up that juicy uber.

Great point. I agree completely.

One thing to keep in mind... There's a responsibility on the medic's part to let his buddy (Heavy or otherwise) know if he's in trouble. It's great to have a buddy that knows you're in trouble, but medics shouldn't be afraid to let their buddy know they're hurting and need to fall back... voice comm is the best way to do it. If you've got a mic, USE IT.

I agree. As a medic, I have played with several "medic friendly" people as I heal them. They would put themselves between me and the enemy, etc. I am their second set of eyes and I tell him who's behind us or whatever.

Jesus i recently just experiance a real fucking cocksucking prick, sorry but he pissed me off that much, he was playing heavy and at the end of the round when we lost, pretty much entirely because the heavys and other classes were protecting me and the other medic, he whines: "Shit medics".

Wow just fucking wow, does he think we are made of titainium? i had uber about 3 times and every time i went to back down because of damage this little piece of shit started to moan. He made me that angry with that comment, i had had a hard day and if i had had him in front of me...........

Wrenchy there speaks the truth.

Your Medic does not have 450 HPs.  Your Medic does not have good damage reduction.  Your Medic is a big honking Butterfly Knife target because he's tethered to your waddling Russian butt despite being the second fastest class in the game.

For the love of God, please try to make tactical Heavy strikes,  use cover to your advantage so that you don't expose the Medic to open fields of fire, and on occasion check behind your Medic with that nice big chaingun of yours.

Thank you.  We love your meatwall selves, but you have to help us help you.

I play medic quite a bit cause there usually isn't one or there aren't enough of them on my team. Soo many times I am out there chasing around a fatty mcfatfat and a flame bursts out of nowhere and I run around him in big circles saying 'FIRE' 'Fire' 'I am on fire!' and the heavy stays doing whatever he's doing. Oh and how about some female characters. Anyhow, I never get any protection from people! They jam on the medic key every two seconds for five minutes sometimes and a spy comes up and does me in the butt. It's redonkulus! Yah you can't always save the medic cause the enemy might wait until the right moment to strike but at least try! Medics you can heal other medics too! I just like to play and goof around and stuff. I don't take the game too seriously. I'm The Fat Kid. But sometimes it's like trying to play a game of basketball where the other people on yer team don't wanna use their hands but then get mad when they lose. If you wanna screw around and have fun then do it! We all got other stuff in our lives that does require discipline and devotion and all that. Just don't demand for me to be awesome medic and then leave me hanging! Also, calling me multiple times is just fine. I think I speak for all medics when I say that. When I'm there and I'm actually healing you then you don't have to keep calling me If all the medics had someone trailing their butts to protect them from no lube rough contact and a heavy that would turn and shoot, and take the medic to health, then everyone would wanna be a medic! P.S. I'm fat.

I make a conscious effort to keep my medic alive, if only because if he dies;

A. I lose my 150 health buffer and am much more vulnerable;

B. The rest of my team is minus a medic (I don't keep the medics all to myself);

C. That medic will probably not follow me in the future.

Good communication between a Heavy and Medic is a MUST.  If there's a Spy/Pyro/whatever coming and one notices (and the other doesn't), LET THE OTHER PERSON KNOW.  Even if they do notice as well, it calls attention to the fact that whatever it is is now a priority target.

Medic/Heavies keep BOTH of the parties involved alive.  Love of God, people.  Try to have some synergy going.

It's really not complicated.

If the medic is good, he will call everything you need to know as he is healing you. I know I will.
Just follow my instructions:

"Scout behind us" means you should turn around and kill him.
"Pull back" means you should pull back (Doh!)
"Watch out for the headshot" means you are about to get sniped in the head.
and the list goes on...

Keep in mind when you die, I am left alone sometimes and that means I will die too...so running ahead thinking you are invincible and dying is no different than letting me die in the first place.

You will NOT be able to protect your medic if he is not a good communicator, because you will not have the necessary information you need to protect him. In other words, it's not always your fault if the medic dies. However, if you are grouped with a good medic, please listen to what he has to say.

If your with an inexperienced medic, (without a mic) it becomes espescially important to keep an eye on his health meter.  If he gets low, tell him to get a MedKit, or go to the locker.

They will eventually pick up the strategy of "staying alive" which is far more beneficial to a team than the alternate strategy of "dying"

Still alive,
