But seriously, why is the hit and run class so slow? If I have to get so rediculously close to an enemy to do damage to him, why do I have to be so slow to do it? You can get there, but you won't make it back to safety.
And let's not forget the medics who now can take on Pyros and actually win.
I just hate playing the Pyro now...I feel like there's nothing special about him anymore. If I want flanking, I go Scout. If I want CQB, I go solly. If I want defense, I go demo or engi.
Seriously...the Pyro has completely lost his appeal to me.

I understand what your saying, and I agree about going plaid. But, the thing is, at least I think the thing is, how can someone in a full rubber suit, with a tank of propane on his back run really fast?
Pyro may not be the best class, but he is a lot of fun to play.

Pyro needs a cheese launcher. No, hear me out. It launches melted cheese, that then hardens and encases the enemy who can only be freed by an ally. The cheese does slow burning damage, probably about half the damage of the flamethrower until they are freed.

The taunts IMO already makes the pyro worth playing.

I think a pyro needs a slight adjustment, the afterburn screen should be worse. Anyways a pyro is not the best choice at all times IMO.
I was playing a scout on Dustbowl stage 1. We had the 2nd cp 30% capped. I changed to Pyro, run to the cp through the gate. There were 4 or more guys on the point, a medic and a soldier... and the rest i don't remember. I burned them to death, took the point, and won the game for my team.
Maybe they were noobs or they were surprised, but the point is that the Pyro can be fatal or a failure depending on the maps/players/situations.

You're not getting what I said, are you?
He may be "tied for third fastest" but that doesn't matter. How many classes is he significantly faster than? Not that many. And with a class that has to close the gap to point blank range, that's SLOW.
Second or third best CQB weapon? He's the FUCKING CQB CLASS, WHY DOESN'T HE HAVE THE BEST CQB WEAPON?!
Again, tied for third most health. Big deal. He still dies a hell of a lot quicker than most classes because he's slow and attracts a LOT of attention to himself.
Afterburn? Unless you're a Scout or Spy, this is not a big deal at all, unless you're playing on cp_orange. Any form of healing will save you, and even then afterburn goes away eventually, or by jumping in water.
I used to love the Pyro. Now? I rarely play as him. I feel like a fly, who kamikazies into the enemy only to get swatted away and have no effect.
Flanks are damn rare, since the maps (save for maybe Gravel Pit) are so damn linear it's rediculous.
Ambushes help, but often you're killed before you get a chance to really do damage. I've gotten the perfect ambush on a soldier, and he just insta-turns and gibs me with a crit rocket, then dies a second later from the afterburn. Yea, that's like a sniper having the perfect long-range shot at a heavy and the heaving killing the sniper.

For some reason I always felt the pyro would be incredibly slow by instakill enemies within a second or so if he got close.

That's only if they stand still. A Pyro trying to burn down any enemy that's moving (that isn't a Heavy) is laughable. If you want an instakill while the enemy tries to get away, there's Heavy. And yeah. He's slow. The Pyro will probably never be a heavy-hitter, because I think we've all seen how fast flames can kill when the person's not moving, and the Pyro is still able to move quickly. My only beef is the quirky hitbox, but there are even ways to get around that. (Setting scouts on fire is easy, just use puffs of flame at him and I PROMISE you something will "spark"). Then you shotty him. Or even better--don't bother with the flamer and shotty him. He doesn't have that much health. Going shotty & axe is more effective anyway, the axe is much less noisy both visually and acoustically. You can chop down a specific player and then get away with much less resistance that if you setting everything on fire. Most people don't like being set on fire.
