I've been using a script to rocket jump and it helps quite a bit. This is what I use (which was taken from TF2 Wiki):

alias +rocketjump "+jump;+duck;wait;+attack"
alias -rocketjump "-jump;-attack;wait;wait;wait;-duck"
bind mouse2 "+rocketjump"

Just aim at the ground and right click and you will fly into the air. Some people criticize scripts and say they make up for lack of skill. They are the same people that say you can't use the C-Stick in Smash Bros. or macros in WoW because they make the game too easy. They have made up their own set of rules that all "skilled" players follow. I recommend ignoring those players and dominating them in-game. Using everything to your advantage is what a good player should do, and complaining about scripts is making excuses.

I use it too. Kind of got tired of having all those other soldiers hit their mega rj so easily while I struggled, not due to lack of practice, just lack of taking care of my fingers over the years.

just out of curiosity, how effective is the script?  I get a lot of freedom out of doing it by hand, but it'll probably prevent carpel tunnel if I can use the script vs. using the 4-step process of rj-ing

You can still do it manually even if you have the script, and sometimes you just don't want to jump that high. The script gets you maximum height and always works.

I have this bound to my mouse4 (side button because I have mouse2 set to switch between rockets/shotgun) and I find myself sometimes using it in rocket battles with other soldiers since it makes me jump as well.. that way I can sometimes miss a direct hit and just get thrown back from the blast.

ok. I am totally incapable of manually doing the super high rocket jump.  I can do the low easy one just fine.  What is the timing of actions? is it jump-shoot really close together?

I have tried many orders/timings of shoot-jump-croutch, and I can't get that super high jump.

I crouch-jump-shoot, in that order, but very quickly, and can generally go quite high.

@ Soce - when you say crouch-jump   do you mean you hit crouch.. then jump or you do a crouch-jump (jump then crouch)?

Doing it manually is actually pretty easy for me as well because I use the speedpads directional pad for jump and for crouch.. so it's like rolling my thumb on it.  Jump, crouch, and shoot.. become a bird
