Rosendoom's How to play the SPARTA!!!!! way.

This guide will show you how to play TF2, the never back down way.  This guide is useful to those of us who want to make a sacrifice to save/help the team, just like in ancient SPARTA!!!!!.
1) First and foremost, DO NOT LEAVE THE BATTLE.  This is critical in making sure that you will at least do some damage.  By staying in the battle you stand a better chance of scoring a hit, kill, or defense.
2) Next, make sure that you go for the tougher targets first.  Basically, that means if you are a scout, spy, medic, or upclose sniper, target the enemy doing the most damage.  This does include sentries.  If you rush enough people at an sg you will over power it.
3) Heavy can be very BAD for this tactic.  I say that simply because of the movement speed.  If a scout and heavy meet in battle and the heavy has not spun up, the scout stands a good chance of survival and even victory.  No if the enemies get funneled through a small gap with a heavy at the end you (as the heavy) can make sure that the enemy team keeps crying like babies.
4) Always remember.  If you can take any of them down, it is one less opponent your team needs to worry about and the faster your team can move up.
5) Also always remember: THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!.
Give to them nothing but take from them EVERYTHING.

I understand what you're trying to say.  I notice alot of people w/ high Dominations and high KPD run away from battles to save their butt.  Which is quite understandable, I do the same frequently.  But, they often leave teammate(s) out in the open, alone, just to be killed.
It is in fact a team game, and that is doing the exact opposite.

IRL, if a Soldier were to abandon his team to save his own skin, he would be marked a coward.  Alot of people are too worried about their stats and rewards, and not worried enough about their teammates, and achieving their goals.

Wow.  I truly was intitally just messing around.  But now that I think about it, it really is like ancient SPARTA!!!!!.  You need to be there to help and die with your team.  After a while it did start to get serious.  It was going to be a joke initially.  Well thanks for the comment Malhavok.  And thanks for the 300 refrences twilight and ginger slayer.
