There really are some serious faggots in the SSB community, though. I've found more elitist/l33t players on forums like Smashworld than I have here, which I guess shouldn't be surprising, given SSBB is a console game. I've met some SSBM/SSBB players whose training regimen is much more strict than any TF2 player I've met, going as far as analyzing how many ms an animation takes up, and perfecting the ability to cancel out of a dashdance. It's sort of ridiculous, and I'm nowhere near that level. I've gotten to the point where I can dashdance, snakedash and use some of Lucas' advanced techniques, but I never spend enough time with the game to get that deep into the mechanics. I just like being able to put up a fight/win when I play.

For the record, tiers are usually based mostly on tournament data. There are a lot of other things that are accounted for, but I'm not going to go into detail here. Those that care enough to know why the tiers are set up as so know why already.

The data, however, does usually reflect who is a better character, but individual skill is still what makes a winner. Point being, if you want to pick up a higher tier character since they're claimed to be better, go right ahead and join the countless others that have the same train of thought, or you could stick to your guns, learn the character you really like to play, and become a better player to dethrone those who play the high tiers.

I'm done now.
Hear hear. I enjoy kicking ass with Mario, Toon Link and Lucas more than any of the other characters. But sometimes it really is true that if you're facing someone who's pro with MK, Marth or somesuch, you usually have to grab a top tier, unless you suck with them.

It's an excellent site, but there's just so many people on it, you're obviously exposed to truckloads of newbs and the other end of the spectrum, the chest-beating 1337 kids who think they're kickass because they rape with Olimar. They all also suck all the celeb players' dicks whenever they post. It's sort of sad. That said, I did vastly improve my game by reading all the guides that are posted there, and it was probably a lot better during the Melee period.

This is old news to me. It was nice to see Olimar jump 7/8 places. If you've ever read the Olimar boards you'll see that it has an active community that is constantly trying to find new ways to improve, if you can read pass all the silly spam.
