Next week, my family and I are going to be flying out to New York for a week. I am very excited about this, as it will be my first visit to the city. We are going to be flying out on Tuesday, July 15th, and flying back in late on the following Tuesday, The 22nd. We already have rooms booked at a hotel there, but we are lacking virtually any ideas/plans for what to do while we are there.I'm wondering if any of you would be able to recommend activities to do and places to go to help me out. Any advice is much appreciated!

If and when I go to NY it would mainly be an all food tour. Lombardi's and Grimaldi's Pizza Carl's Steaks for a cheese steak wit! Nathan's and Gray's Papaya for some hot dogs Katz's Delicatessen for a corned beef sandwich Junior's Restaurant for a slice of cheesecake Lasagna Ristorante for lasagna Ronnybrook Farm Dairy for an ice cream sammich
If I'd have to pick only one, it would be Lombardi's Pizza.

Visit every Museum. They are AMAZING. This is an absolute must.
The Bronx Zoo, I went when I was 8, and I still have vivid memories. It's fantastic. I got to ride a Camel for God's sake.
The Statue of Liberty is cool. But, because of 9/11 you cannot actually go up to the Torch any more.
Ellis Island is cool. It's interesting to see where our ancestors came from.
Times Sqaure
NBC Studios
FAO Swarchz(sp) World Famous Toy Store
Central Park
Madison Square Gardens
Wall Street
There's actually too much to list.
Edit: I almost forgot Broadway, Washington Square Park, I suppose where the Towers used to be would be cool, Shea Stadium, and Yankee Stadium. Yankee Stadium is really cool.

Thanks for the advice, guys. My, eating my way through New York sounds fun. And Malhavok, thanks for that list of places.

Hey, I'm currently in my hotel in New York!
After what seemed to be an eternity on the plane, we pulled into the JFK Airport at about 5:30. The airport was pretty amazing. I've never seen such a huge airport! It was just mind-blowing how gigantic it was.
The train system here is also completely insane and mind-blowing. It's just hard to realize how damn big the city is. We were also pleasently surprised by how friendly people seem to be. There were several people that were only too eager to help us find our way. One went way out of his way to help us get on the right trains and get to the right place. It just surprised me how helpful people were.

If you like comics and by the empire state building try to stop into Jim Hanleys Universe, only if you have spare time, its like a supermarket for comics.

And always try to go to Hard Rock Cafe, Broadway shows, especially the lion king for children, for adults Chicago I guess, Chicago is not that mature, the tickets are like 100 bucks just for standard seats, remember reserve fast or you can pay $5 to stand and watch the show . Take pics of Broadway, its where everything is like Hard Rock Cafe. Go hop on one of those double decker tour bus, really cool but cover you eyes, hope you don't mind the garbage and trash on teh streets, always try to buy one of those sweet roastd nutes for $1 really good there aer like tons of venders near Broadway and most of all Can't believe the people above failed to mention this but, GO to the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING, there is like a $15 dollar fee but being able to go to the top floor of NYC you can see EVERYTHING, don't forget to bring your cameras . BTW the JFK airport is not that big comparing to the places I visited aka China, Chicago O'HARE, airports, but it is crowded. Also go to the Natural Museum of History sounds boring but its near Centrel so you can visit both places.

Put on a baseball cap and dog tags and run around with a baseball bat yelling BONK.

Lol, nice idea, GeneralSheep.
And Jin, we actually went to see a lot of the things you mentioned today. In the morning, we went to Rockefeller Plaza. We toured NBC studios (Thanks for the idea, Malhavok!) there. I must say, it was really neat, but kind of embarrasing, since the only show that I knew about was SNL. After that, we walked to the Empire State Building. I was shocked by how long the lineups were to get up. The view from the top was spectacular, but also extremely surreal. Everything was so small, it looked almost fake. The amount of taxis in the city was absolutely astounding.
After leaving the Empire State Building, we walked to Times Square. I was completely taken aback by all of the commercializaion there. Screens, lights, and builboards everywhere! It was also interesting to note how many Starbucks there are. We passed 7 just from the Empire State Building. Insane.
Finally, after a good walk in Central Park (which is also amazing), we went to see Chicago (we grabbed some tickets earlier in the day for 50% off). It was a great musical. I've never seen one before, but I really enjoyed it. Hopefully, we'll get to see some more stuff on Broadway before we leave.
On our way back to our hotel in Flushing, we went throuug Times Square after dark. There were so many lights that it was just as well lit up as it was during the day! Incredible, just incredible.
I'd write more, but I have to go to sleep now. It's past 12:30 here, and we want to get up early tomorrow.
