Sonic the Hedgehog is getting the Megaman 9 treatment from Sega, "Project Needlemouse" is a brand-new 2D (HD also) Sonic game that will capture the charm of the 16-bit masterpieces he's known for. It's planned from sometime in 2010; probably not until next fall, but as an old fanboy of the series myself I'll definitely be looking forward to this game in the following months.

BTW - It'll be for Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network, Wii version hasn't been brought up from what I saw.

Just hearing the 'SEGA' at the beginning there gave me hope that this could be a good Sonic game! I still play my old Mega Drive games from time to time, far better than the 3D games they made for Sonic.

The previous sonic game they handled like this was AMAZING (the daytime parts were anyway) so a game that's nothing but playing as Sonic in 2d-3d environments will be AMAZING! It's about time you stopped throwing secondary characters at us Sega.

But I swear, if I hear that you have to play as anybody but Sonic, I'm gonna go on a murderous rampage. That's what killed the other games, they better not do it again!

Hopefully this won't be absolutely terrible like almost all the other sonic games. Because everyone knows that when sega plans to make a Sonic game, they never mess it up by adding stupid crap like emerald finding levels, simple shooter levels, god awful God of War clone levels, or weird racing game-esque hack and slash levels.

Sonic 3D, Sonic Adventure 1, Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Riders, Sonic the Hedgehog (Xbox), Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic and the Black Knight sucked.

Look at how long that list is.

So... Did you leave out sonic riders 2 on purpose?

It's not really the mega man 9 treatment if they make the game have a modern day presentation. It's got to look like a genesis game if it's going to have the "mega man 9 treatment".
