WARNING: This has absolutely nothing to do with the recent 'huge' Sniper/Spy update. Its just something I thought of and wanted to have it checked about and thought about by other people.
SentryGun Ranged Rocket Attack.
-In a Nutshell, what is it?
The Ranged Rocket Attack (RRA) is a simple addition to the game and is unique for Level 3 SentryGuns. This is the ability for Level 3 SentryGuns to shoot their rockets at targets on an unlimited range. The Rockets are not accurate however.
-How would this be done?
After selecting his Building PDA. The Engineer simply 'fires' at targets in the distance, for example, an enemy Sniper taking aim. The Sentry will then point towards the target and shoot its rockets, reload, fire again, reload... This continues until the Sentry runs out of Rockets (There are 20 in total) or the Engineer tasks his Sentryy to stop firing by selecting his Building PDA and pressing OFF, for the SentryGun. The Sentry then 'reboots' itself before going its normal stage of scanning the area and shooting at hostiles.
The whole reboot takes 3 seconds.
-Why is this needed and why would it be a nice, little upgrade for the Engineer?
The Engineer desperately needs some help protecting his SentryGun. With Snipers, Soldiers, Demomen and FlareGun Pyros all kicking his ass at range, now with Ambasserdor armed Spys in on the action. It's about time time the Texan got some lovin'. Now, if he spots some enemy at range in a window or on a ledge, he can simply task his SentryGun to fire Rockets at that spot and they'll take care off the rest.
-The drawbacks.
1. The Rockets are not 100% accurate like at normal range. The enemy has plenty of time to move out of range before he gets hit.
2. As it takes 3 seconds for the SentryGun to stop firing at the target and then return to normal, the Engineer is left very vulnerable. If someone was to happen to attack him at that stage, he'd be done for.
3. Pyros' can airblast the Rockets back towards the and your buildings.
4. The SentryGun would need constant attention.
Well what ya' think?
