I'm not a very good scout right now and working on improving my abilities. One thing I've been wondering, after playing CSS, is if shooting at some classes legs is a good idea, especially scouts. Theory I'm going on hear is that a running targets legs make a large hitbox area and the maximum amount of scattergun pellets would make contact. It wouldn't make sense for a soldier or demo because their widest part is their shoulders, but scouts and medics have very thin bodies and when their running their legs  make large hitboxes. I'm going to try it the next couple days and see how it works and am wondering if anybody else does it with the scattergun against these targets.

Thanks for your help.

The hitboxes are around the legs.

That is to say, there is not a big box surrounding the entire character that has to expand and contract while the character is running to make sure he stays in, there are 2 on the feet, 2 on the lower legs, 2 on the upper legs, 1 on the lower torso, 1 on the upper, etc...

You still have to aim at the legs, therefore you are actually less likely to hit legs while they run.

Aiming at the chest and below, espescially at medics, is a good idea in general for scouts.  They like to duck, and dodge, so if you aim at their head you'll miss.

diagram of hitboxes (in reference to lag compensation, but still relevant):

In theory it may be more effective to aim at the legs but its more intuative to aim at the largest target, the chest. Also, i know in cs that ppl survive an awp to the foot or leg which indicates the leg hitbox may take less dmg than the chest or head.

This isn't the case in TF2. All weapons do equal damage wherever on the body they hit, except for a scoped sniper rifle shot (3x damage on head) and a knife (instant kill on back of body).

Of course, weapons like the minigun are best aimed at the torso. Better to have 80% of your bullets hit the chest than 60% of your bullets hit the legs and 20% fly harmlessly between/past them because they're not a single solid target.

Thanks for the info, useful to know. I think the fact that there are no head shots for classes except sniper, makes the game more fun and allows ppl to play more openly and aggressively.

Most of the weapons in tf2 do not go exactly where you aim, so aiming at the largest part of the body is the best aka chest.

I dont mind that it doesnt go exactly where u aim it, kinda adds to the charm of the game and makes it feel less serious than cs
