In many soldier guides you can read that you should not reload your rocket launcher in the middle of a fight, but try to kill the enemies with your shotgun instead.
This I find a bit strange, since reloading the rocket launcher seems to take less time (or about the same time) than to bring out the shotgun and fire.
For some reason there is a pause after you bring out the shotgun before you can fire.
Or is there some setting I have to change to remove this pause that I am unaware of ?

All of the good solder videos will show them switching to shotgun because that pause shouldn't be anyway as long as a reload of the rocket.  PLus you get to keep shooting 6 rounds with the shotgun, not just one rocket.

It's not even about pure firepower. It's that shotgun is low-risk, low-damage and rocket-launcher is high-risk, high-damage.

When you only need low-damage to kill a weakened enemy, switch to the low-risk weapon!

Someone said the time for reloading a rocket is 1.2 sec.
The pause for the shotgun + the time it takes to choose the shotgun is at least that long for me (if Im not totally mistaken). It is extremely annoying, since the game and not your reaction time limits your speed.

Cascade, yes you are right about that. The shotgun has other advantages. It is just the argument about that it should be faster than reloading your RL I am a bit sceptical about.

Well, check your cl_interp value - should be 0.8ish unless you've been screwing around with it. Apart from that, don't look at the animation - just quickswitch to shotgun and start mashing fire - sometimes your shots will come out when the animation suggests you might not be able to shoot yet. Get a feel for that timing.

I use cl_interp 0.03.
I try to fire as fast as I can several times, but I always have to wait for some time before something happens.

Do you know exactly what the cl_interp value does ?
Many people seem to recommend 0.03 so I use it, but I dont know the reason for it...

If you switch to you shotgun immediately after firing your last rocket, then the delay is quite abit smaller.  You almost switch at the same time you fire the rocket.

That is a really good thing to know in that case. I will try that.

Hi, I use cl_interp 0.03 too, and have found that, with Solder, it's mainly affecting the Rocket Launcher.  It adjusts the time between you pressing fire and the rocket actually leaving the launcher.  Hope this helps

Why would anyone want any kind of delay for the rockets ? :-)
