Skybox Troubles

I am building a skybox but I'm having a few problems.

1. I can actually SEE the skybox from the real map. It's that little circle in the sky.


2. It doesn't look like how I made it. It's supposed to connect with the cave to make the map look like a pit.

and here is what I've built the skybox like.


Here's an in hammer picture. Is the 0.0.0 point off because I know that is where the skycamera works from.

For the first pic, check to see if you have your skybox intersecting your sky brush at any point, it almost looks like that.  In the second pic, it all depends on how you setup your skybox.  If you mean things aren't sewn together you'll have to fix that with the displacements before you shrink it down. 

Also, not sure if you know this, but the skybox "sight" is based on where you place the sky cam.  If your skycam is smack in the middle of your pit then the pit will look like it's all around instead of below you.  Again, it's hard to know exactly what you're meaning though so if these don't help just say so.

No, the skybox is well above the map, I made sure of that. I don't know what you mean by "you'll have to fix that with the displacements before you shrink it down".

I do want the pit to look as if it's all around you because I want you to feel as if you are in a pit. I'm going to mess around with it a bit more and see what happens.

I guess I don't quite understand what it is your trying to do or what the problem is.

You know what, I just realized something. With what I'm trying to do I don't even NEED a 3D skybox. Wow. I'm special.

I'm gonna go kick myself in the head right now. (I actually can)

Put the skybox at the side of the map you prob wont see it then.  I know you need a complete skycube surrounding your stuff so make sure you have that you may also need to change the orientation of the stuff in the skybox to match your map remember everything in a skybox is amplified 16 times.

Its also dependant on exacty where your entity is located. in the skybox.

If you can see the small skybox, it's usually because there's a leak, and vis doesn't get run, and no vis means the whole map gets rendered.
