I admit, he was the least played class. I rarely go as Engie because I find him largely boring to play. Medic is even rarer, he's not a big front line character, though you can go Battle Medic, but I don't get much joy out of it. My top three characters are Spy, Pyro, and then Sniper. I alternate between Scout and Heavy to mix things up, but I never went with Demo. Why? I never had much luck with the Nade Launcher, it seems kinda' useless. I had some luck with the Stickies, but I grew tired of it.

So, I decided to try him out again. I loved the Stickie Launcher on Gravel Pit, the Sentries would give me so much trouble as Spy, it seems almost sad that a pretty newb Demo could take them out in less then a minute. Oh my god. Now I need to practice on some Heavies.

Great class, though I still think the Grenade Launcher is kinda' useless when compared to the Stickie Launcher. It seems to be a weapon you fire in a corner where you know they might be hiding, or something to scare them away.

The nade launcher has a big learning curve. If you can learn how to lead your shots, it's so deadly.

using the combination of both weapons are more deadly, but learning the nade launcher always comes first

You sure..... jin.. was that the name? In the last weeks i have happened to meet more and more demomen, that prefer to use the sticky launcher exclusively. I do understand that. Stickies can be shot much further, they can be planted in front of you in close combat battle and, what makes them interesting for the most demomen i guess, is, that you can detonate them, even though they have slightly missed their targets.

I, however, also highly encourage players to learn using the pipe launcher over the sticky launcher as general combat weapon. First of all a direct hit will deal damage faster than a sticky can. With practice you can shoot them pretty precise. I suggest starting to practice with inanimate objects or stationary players.... like sentries on gold rush.

Stickies really should be used for very long range combat, taking out sentries or targets out of sight and securing areas... maybe camping doorways if you feel malicious...

...oh, and of course stickyjumping

....i love stickyjumping!

Watch some good demo movies and you will see that the grenade launcher is a monster once you learn how to aim with it.  Any of the videos by dummy are good examples of amazing aim with pipes.

This is a good example http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kf38jeBmiug&feature=related

Grenades are pretty useless until you get good at hitting enemies up close. I know I get a bit frustrated when playing demoman because of the huge learning curve the grenades have but that's the only way I'll improve with them.

So don't neglect them, keep practicing.

the thing about nades is that the curve when its launched is always interesting to test out and use, nades are easier to hit people on a higher elevation than you comparing to rockets in my opinion at least, stickies are okay but I only use them when I'm out of nades. so stickies for long~mid range, nades mid~close range. Always practice mid air sticky explosion whatever you call it,  I have no idea how much damage i'm dealing but I know I hit them because of the class sound they make when hurt.

I get it, the Nade launcher is kinda' like the Bazooka. You have to aim it where you think they're heading. Interesting.

Yep, except you don't have to aim it at the ground.

I play Demoman for these reasons:
Nice Physics oriented weapons.
Pipebomb jumping lets you get up little ledges that would otherwise take a Doublejump, Rocketjump, or Stickyjump to get up.
And of course, doing crazy sticky jumps where I change my direction of momentum midair.  Great for the first stage of Goldrush. (learned the trick from Perfect Stride, it's a very unique HL2 mod)
