Soldier Looking for Advice - Demo Included

I'm looking for some tips to improve my Soldier gameplay since I feel a bit...lacking in the skill department. I can semi-rocketjump (There are some Good and Bad ones in the Demo) and I can lead rockets....some of the time.

I'd mainly like a reivew on my overall gameplay. I don't remember how long it is but it's Stage 3 Dustbowl with me on the Red Team.

Heh, ok after watching it a little closer I know I canNOT lead shots. I guess I still havent found the sweet spot (I always feel like i'm aiming too far ahead when in reality its still not far enough!). I'm also just randomy shooting and not picking any targets...I'll see if I can record a better demo.

Looked like you were doing fine in that demo to me.

Quick Dustbowl tip: Stage 3 Cap 2 you can crouch jump onto an invisible ledge to get up into that hut on the left. I noticed you kept rocket jumping up there unnecessarily.

its okay thats how demos are, they are not your top performance just overall it gets boring sometimes but thats okay. Overall it was good but play on gravelpitt more I want to see some air shots

Ok, I have watched the demo now.
I dont think dustbowl is the most suitable map for making a demo of individual skills, since your success on this map depends extremely much on how good your team is (much more than on other maps).
Also, there is little room for showing individual skills like differnt kinds of rocket jumps, since you usually most of the time just stay on the same spot and spam.

Anyway, your gameplay seems quite ok, but I have some comments :

In the beginning, when the enemies come rushing with uber, dont waste rockets shooting at them. When the uber stopped, you had no rockets left to fire at the medic and had to reload. It is better to try to hide and then start firing the rockets at the medic just as the uber stops. Sometimes, of course, you might want to shoot at an uber pair to separate the medic from the guy he is healing,  but this is not always  that easy (this can be a good idea on locations where the medic or the other guy can fall down somewhere, like on the midcap on Badlands or perhaps on the bridge on last cap on dustbowl).
 
In the beginning of the demo it is hard to to be able to give much advice since the other team sucked big time...If you stand up there you usually have to worry about a lot of stickies flying in through the windows and snipers headshotting you as soon as you look out there..
Now you were able to spam rockets everywere since noone else seemed to use the ammo pack behind you, but sometimes a lot of poeple want that pck and then one has to save rockets for the most important situations (like when one has a clear shot on some medic).

You dont seem to use horizontal rocket jumps at all. I noticed you tried to jump from the left house  at last cap and you hit the roof instead of jumping forward.
This could have been avoided by doing a horizontal type jump instead. Thos kind of jumps are also important to transport yourself quickly around the map.
You do a horizontal jump by :
1. Strafe in the direction you want to jump (lets say this is left).
2. Duck, jump and shoot a bit to the right of you (the lower angle you shoot, the more horizontal jump).
3. Turn arond to your old direction again.
 The timing between the duck, jump and shoot varies for different mice, keyboards and so on, so you have to do some experimenting yourself. Sometimes you have to shoot before duck-jumping.

If you do the above facing a wall you also gain some extre lenght and speed to your jump. This is also true if you have a wall behind you.

Then on the last cap, you always should try to be near cap when they are pushing through. Otherwise you cannot help defending much and you will get surrounded.

But as I said, it would be more informative with a demo when you play for example Badlands or Granary. 
 

Thanks for that review. I'm still trying to learn the sweet spot for leading rockets and I was just trying to get the Medic seperated with rockets, though, as you saw, I failed misrably. I'm usually able to do the most damage in that battlement in the beginning since I don't have much luck with with Stickies flying everywhere else, though, as you said that just leads to me spamming rockets and not just picking targts.

I'll try to get a new Demo up on Gravlepit (I love that map).

Ok, so I didn't get a game one Gravel Pit, but i'm sure these will do. Gold Rush anyone?

This one is pretty short so if your not into sitting through a lot of game, watch this one. It's Stage 2 of Gold Rush, with me as Soldier on the Red Team. I started off ok, but I got a bit careless and tried going for a health pack with a heavy in front of me. Oops. Thats the only death I had IIRC. I seem to be getting the hang of just generally staying alive and to some extent, leading rockets. Grab the .dem here:

Now, this is the longer version, but it's not really uber long. It's Stage 1 of Gold Rush, me on the Blue Team (As, you guessed it, Soldier). I DID play this game right after the one above, so I guess you could say I was more than warmed up. I got some good kills, but didn't stay alive nearly as much as I would have liked (I actually charged in Rambo style once for some, unknown reason). I think this one does show some slightly better skills on my part, and, of course, a really good first kill cam screenshot! Grab it here:

Again, I'd just love some general comments on my playstyle and what I need to improve on. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did playing them, though, It was a bit laggy at points. I don't know why, my computer is just being generally slow, even now. I'll have to look into it...

Don't play Gold Rush or Dustbowl if you want to get better. Those maps are dominated by Demoman spam.

Oh and sorry for the .dem filenames. You're going to have to remove the "(S#)" tags I added to the end otherwise they won't play (Sorry). And rads, these games arn't that bad. They seemed full of kinda newish-mid level players anyway. I've only got 20 hours as Soldier.
