Speed Up IE8 Tabs and Rendering

I don't use IE8 by choice, but most of us have to use it at some point. This fix has been making its way around the interwebz, and it really does help out quite a bit: Link. It also appears to help IE7 but not nearly as much as IE8.

I'll be the first to say "People still use IE?" but I went ahead and tried it. I'll restart in a bit and I'll let you know if it's faster or not (I'm a Firefox user).

I've got a good fix: Use firefox.

Now as for the tweak, the increase is very noticeable. I noticed a faster loading time right away and I'm pretty impressed with such an easy fix. I have no idea what it did, but it works. Thanks for the tip.

ram usage =! performance

in a world of 2gb for $20 i barely notice ff using that much ram.

anyway its not like comparing ff to IE for ram usage is a good analog. so much of IE is built right into windows that you are practically running it even when you arent.

I don't use it by choice as stated in my OP, but almost none of the sites on my university's LAN work great outside of IE. As a developer, I have to use IE a lot for testing. Also, machines that are constrained resource-wise (Netbooks anyone?) really can't realistically use Firefox with any type of add-ons since it is indeed a huge RAM-hog. I've been a longtime FF user since the early < 1.0 betas. Also, anyone who is in IT more than likely has to use IE.

I apparently have the choice to uninstall it in win7 but i think that would be a mistake.

This is what i use.  It emulates IE for only sites you tell it to inside firefox.  Works like a charm, i think i had to get it because back in the day a ragnarok online site only worked with IE.  Pretty flawless from what i've found.
