Spy, Stab Register System

I despise when I go for the stab, and it doesn't register. but just curious, does this do regular stab damage? the (failed) stab victim doesn't seem to respond when I get a (failed) stab, but I'm not 100% sure

yeah....I wouldn't worry about it. Usually people complain about backstabs not registering, but no matter how much we don't like it, it's probably more of a user error than a game error. Usually I attribute "failed" stabs to:

1) not being close enough
2) not hitting the right spot on the hitbox (you may think you did, but in reality you didnt.)

and then last ditch:

3) tf2 screwed up.

I was practicing flick-stabs on tr_airshot last night, and I noticed that sometimes I would get a quickstab that barely missed but made the crit noise. I am under the impression that the butterfly knife doesn't crit without a backstab, and so I'm wondering why this might be happening.

NOTE: I was playing on a client-side server (my own computer, which can handle running and playing at the same time if it's just me.) Also, the flick-stabs that did land did not make the crit noise.

You can crit the moment you get the lift. You get the actual green text when it lands.

yeah....I dont know. the stab system can mess up. I've had many occasions where I flick stab someone and I hear the scream but it doesn't kill them. dunno whats up, hopefully they'll fix it when they update the spies
