What kind of a spy gear combination do you use?
I've recently been using the Revolver and the Cloak and Dagger, but I thought I probably should start using the normal one.
Earlier I defended the Dead Ringer but it's so obvious when someone's using the DR that it's useless

My normal loadout is the magnum and CnD.

My playstyle is not to use Cloak and Dagger to camp, but rather it allows me to pick a good time to uncloak.

Many players use CnD to camp CP's, Spawn, Chokepoints. I do not think that kind of playstyle if neither fun nor effective. I prefer to pretend that it is
a normal watch that allows me the survey the environment without rushing to make a decision.

To make my point clear, CnD is a much better infiltration tool for spies. It is different. The IW is a tool that get you to places to maximize your disguise. CnD lets you stay behind enemy lines much longer, and prolong your life.

Actually, the vanilla watch has the ammo pickup, and is much slower to drain, so you pretty much have infinite cloak if you actually know where ammo is, and you can run much longer distances w/o having to stop.

EDIT: You said that the vanilla watch is to maximize your disguise, thing is, you should never, EVER try to use your disguise as anything other than fooling sentries.

Vanilla

CaD: Sure your survivability is higher, but you don't get much done. It's better to cloak, pick up some ammo on your way in, stab people, die, respawn, repeat. Most of the time with the CaD is spent moving really slowly.

DR: Absolutely worthless, You can be a pain in the ass to the other team yes, but you won't be getting enough kills to help your own

Ambassador: Not as good as the basic revolver with the new patch, can be useful on a team that is turtled up for sniping engys then sapping, other than that, not as effective.

Yes, I do agree with you that the vanilla watch, if used correctly, can have infinite cloak time. But with that said, you need to move. With the vanilla watch you cannot pick your time to strike a sentry nest. With the IW, you either pick when you strike, or where you strike. You cannot pick both.

I also forgot to add, with the latest patch that fixed CnD regen time, it is not nearly as slow as it use to be; it regens almost double as fast.

With the CnD, you are constantly hindered by your need to stop for 18 seconds every 6 seconds, when you could be doing better things, like killing key targets for your team to move up, etc, but instead you are sitting on that box in the corner waiting for your cloak to get back up. Its either, Vanilla Watch: Spend 1 minute getting behind enemy lines, and then get a few kills, and get killed, maybe sap a sentry, OR you can spend 3 minutes getting into the enemy base, with the CnD

I don't try to fool people with the dead ringer, I prefer it if they know I'm around.
