Is it better to spread stickies on the floor and detonate when you see the 'Intel Picked Up' message, or spread them more strategically (on the doorways and on the desk) and wait in the room?

It was my understanding that they are more less effective on the ground and better in strategic points. I can't remember where I read it.

Hmmmm Its more of a surprise when you put them on the walls and such. I know because I'm often hit when running in. However I hesitate quite a bit when I see stickies on the ground. But if you dont put them on the ground just right you can dodge or jump over them pretty fast. It really depends. If your gonna sit around and defend the intel then sure, go for the walls. But if your gonna go out and use the pipe bombs and such I'd put them on the ground.

If our base is constantly getting infiltrated by scouts and spies I usually place a few stickies right "inside" the intel down in the intelligence room and then go out to the front lines.  When I hear the alarm that our intelligence was stolen I right click immediately and the sticky bombs do the rest.  Any scout that was holding the briefcase is no more.

The biggest problem about putting your stickies on the floor and leaving them is that they can be shot out of the way if you are not watching them. Basically leaving you to detonate them and not kill the person who just picked up the intel if they are left un-harassed while in the basement.

I don't really play demo on 2fort too much anymore, but my favorite spots always used to be under (not sure if you can reliably get them underneath anymore) the two ramps, or just at the top. Blowing people up as they try to run up.

If you are simply leaving your stickies and leaving and counting on the intelligence messages to tell you when to detonate you are effectively removing half your arsenal. I would say either camp the room or don't bother. That way you can still use your sticky bombs in your current fight and don't have to rely on the 4 shots to do your job. You die and they disappear anyways.

Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly. If you plop down your 8 stickies on the intel and then run off to fight somewhere else you are going to be less effective in my opinion. It would be a bit like the pyro leaving his shotgun behind and only using the flamethrower to attack.

I have had the best luck defending the intel on 2Fort when I actually camp the room. I'll place 4 stickies just inside the long hallway where the enemy has to make a left turn coming into the intel room from the outer chamber. I'll place them just at shoulder height so they hit more of the head area and do more damage. They are impossible to see there unless you actually come around the corner (and by then hopefully I have seen you already and detonated them) and nearly impossible to get off the wall without me knowing you are there.

I'll then place my other 4 stickies on the short hall (the L shaped one) where the enemy has to turn right to get into the intel room. But since the ceiling is lower, I'll place at least a couple of those stickies on the ceiling where they will do a fair bit of damage and I'll place the other 2  around shoulder height again.

Then I'll get in the corner and crouch behind the desk so I'm less visible and basically wait until someone comes around the corner and KA-BOOM!!!

I've had a lot of luck holding off the enemy with this setup. Some counters that can work against this defense are an Uber charge, an enemy that rushes the room with 2 or 3 people but slightly staggered so I only get 1 or 2 of them before the last one makes it through and starts blasting me at short range (Close Quarter Battles are not the Demo's forte) or a Spy that waits until he is in the room and safely past my stickies before he uncloaks and starts blasting me with his Magnum. In the situations where it is a one on one battle it usually ends up 50-50 as to who is going to walk away from the fight.

Also the grenade launcher is a great tool here as well. If someone peeks their head around the corner to see if anyone is camping the room but runs back around the corner again, start rebounding grenades off the walls near them and hopefully you can deal enough damage that you take them out or at least deal enough damage that they go away.
