I was looking at the Engineer achievments ideas thread and, I saw one that seemed familiar - "Stare Death in the Eyes: Keep yourself and your SG alive during an enemy Uber attack"
I did that once, defending the second cap of Dustbowl. And yes, it was a heavy-uber, at close range. Dispenser directly behind me, lvl 3 sentry directly in front of me, in-between me and the heavy, and a fall to my left. The sentry's bullet and missile fire at that range, while not dameging the heavy, as he was uber, prevented him from getting around to be able to hit me or my dispenser, as the wall and my sentry were blocking him on my left and front. So, as my Dispenser was full, I kept getting metal with my wrench to constantly repair my sentry 'till their uber wore off and my senry quickly eliminated them. Then, while I was typing a cruel taunt, I was backstabbed and by sentry was sapped. Oh well.

yeah, its pretty easy to survive an uber if you have enough metal. If you are being attacked by another person as well as an uber though, you can usually forget about surviving.

Heavies are easy to survive, its Soldiers/Demomen that are the toughies.

*shameless plug*
and the medics who make your own gun kill you during the uber.

If I see stickies coming in, I just bail ASAP, but a Heavy/Med, I'd think twice before abandoning. Typically, though, I see all my placements as temporary, subject to where the team is trying to push. I rarely play defensive engy.

I don't even bother ubering a Heavy anymore to take out sentries, Demomen and Soldiers are eons more effective at it. Superior range, easer to kill the blasted engineer, etc.

I've survived heay ubers on dustbowl, stage 3, CP1 a couple of times. If you want to take out sentries as an uber, get close with a pyro

I was going to say. I've played both heavy and medic a lot, and if this happens, either the heavy simply doesn't know when to be running, when to be firing, what entrances to take, or has el terrible aim, or the medic isn't doing his job right. If the medic does his job really well, all should be well.

He just has no mobility while firing the minigun, so he can't get around the sentry to kill the engineer, unlike demo or pyro ubers. The longer the gun lasts, the less uber they have to work with afterwards. Anything;s better than the gun going down instantly and them having say, 6-8 seconds of invuln to work with.

Yep, usually heavies are easy to survive, unless it is point blank. Demomen is almost impossible, as is pyros. Soldiers if they don't know what they are doing are also easy to survive, the medic needs to take the knockback, and then you need to move round enough to be able to hit the engineer, then you need to finish off the sentry somehow, I have actually shovelled sentries at times
