I am writing the script for a TF2 comic that I had an idea for. It is a four part comic series and I have written down the story synopsis and summaries of the four comics. I am beginning to write the Issue 1 script but I have to keep in mind the tools that are going to be used to create the comic. I was thinking of using Gary's Mod since I am not very good at drawing characters consistently(in one panel the nose might be bigger or the hair will be different, etc.) and it would be easier than trying to find an artist that is willing to work for free on a four part project(four issues with no standard length each). But I have a few different locales in the script. The first is a corporate office, then we've got a forest, a desert facility and the desert surrounding it, and some other minor places. My question is, can Gary's Mod generate all these types of places or are we stuck with the levels of Half-Life and Team Fortress? If this is the case then I guess I would have to stick with finding someone to pencil the pages and then I would ink, color, and letter the pages on Photoshop. Obviously this takes more time than using Gary's Mod which is why I am posing this question.

Also, while I am at it, anyone that is willing to do the pages of the comic, whether by pencil or using Gary's Mod, can PM me or send an email to static.veil@gmail.com  I'll send you back the story synopsis, issue summaries along with the notes. Keep in mind this is a non paying gig, but it might look good on your resume. I'm really better at writing than drawing so any help would be good.

Thanks everyone,
wicked.fable

sorry buddy... i already plan to do a series of humorous comic shorts about TF2 by myself. i got like 10 ideas written down already... and if i see you stealing some of my ideas I KEEL JOO!

as for your post: I think in singleplayer you should be able to access most custom maps for every mod supported. you should also have access to every piece of TF2 content in garrysmod.... the only problem is, there is no GMod 2007 at the moment.... i don't really want to go beta... since the battlefield 2142 open beta patch things i am a little fraid of that. So i still wait for it to be released... but it shouldn't take too long... garry said that it should be released this year... even though that "its done when its done".

good luck on your comic though. i don't feel any rivalry coming up, for our goals are different ones... you sound like you want to make long, serious comics. i merely wanna do one-hitter comic shorts.

in any case you should definitely draw up concepts of your comic frames. I can't even begin to tell you how much help it is to have a story board drawn up when making films or good concept sketches when doing 3d work. Basically you won't get a good result unless you have proper prework down. These kind of images are just for you and does of course not require any wicked  ass drawing skills, but helps you get the camera angles and rough poses right before you start fiddling with all the possibilities of Gmod or any other real editor. Even stick figures will do. No matter how good a picture you have of the scene(s) in your head, i strongly suggest you get them down on paper before you start making them "for real". This comes from experience, it's more or less a must to do this.

Good luck with your comics, looking forward to seeing them. TF2 Humor is just down my lane. Got to love it

Oh yeah, I always thumbnail the comic and do concept page layouts for artists to work off of.

Don't worry Fluffy Tiger Plushie, I won't be making rivals with anyone any time soon. I need all the help I can get as my first project is going to be a four issue thing with a possible sequel. I definetly don't want to make any enemies during that time period.

Thanks guys, I'll just have to see if there are any good TF2 maps that are suited for my comics. I've got this comic which is more of a comic with a real story in it and then I've got some funny ones lined up as well which I've already scripted so expect to see some in the very near future.

I can't help with the images at all, as I don't have Garry's Mod and Couldn't draw my way out of a paper bag with a hole in the bottom. But, I'd be more then willing to help anyone out with writting scripts, as writing is my passion (besides drinking, gaming, and women), and I'm fairly good at it.
Either way, good luck to all of you on these projects, and I look forward to seeing them grow.
