Hey everyone! This is a reminder about our regular event, but also a guide about 'Pick Up Games' at TF2F.
TF2F Loves to PUG! We have at least two PUGs per weekday, and even four on weekends.
We like to see the PUGs as "Casual Competition". This is to say that it is more organized than a Public "PUB" game, because it has teams that work together for the match, and a captain that leads that team. It's casual because it is just supposed to be fun, as opposed to a leauge or ladder match, and the teams are made on the fly, right before each game.
TF2F PUGs are open to anyone who has our vent password. How do you get the vent password? You need to talk to an existing {TF2F} member, and if they trust you enough, it is up to them to decide whether or not you can have the vent password. It's usually pretty easy to get this from someone, as long as you aren't a very obvious jerk.
Types of TF2F PUGS
- TF2F Late Night PUGs -- These are held every night at 11:30pm EST. You MUST arrive before this time, or you are NOT guaranteed to play.
- Sunday and Saturday Pugs (SPUGs) -- These are held on Saturdays at and Sundays after 1:30pm EST, but closer to 2:00pm EST. You should show up at 1:30pm if you want to play, and if you come after you are not guaranteed a spot.
Tips for new players:
- Pugs are much different than Pubs because you MUST work as a team. It is for this reason that it is likely that you will suck your first time playing.
- You MUST follow your captains orders. Failure to do so will result in your inability to play in the future.
- You must follow PUG organizers. These may be different for each PUG, but it will likely be: Kankle King, LOST, Higgs Boson, Album, Lancer, TeamChuckles! or any other TF2F admin. We also have [AoC]Blooddept helping us out on occasion.
- If you arrive late, or there is an odd amount of people, the last or late person in will be asked to be a substitute player. Being a substitute player means that in the case of a player dropping out for any reason, you will take their spot.
- Know how to add servers to your favourites list. We have two private servers that you must have favourited in order to play.
To add a server to your favourites:
1. Go to your steam server browser, and click the favourites tab
2. Click the add a server button
3. paste this ip: 74.63.68.149:27015
4. Click add this address to favourites
5. Repeat process for the ip: 74.63.68.150:27015
- Since PUGs are open to anyone, it is likely and unavoidable that you won't like someone, or that someone won't like you. Please try to be understanding (and be polite instead of frustrated) as different players have different skill levels, and in a PUG you can NOT expect someone to have a certain level of skill. Remember: Compared to Chro, we all suck. If you have a SERIOUS issue (harassment) with anyone, please tell your captain, or the PUG organizer.
- Leaving your game early, for any reason other than something completely unavoidable will diminish your reputation, and may result in you not being able to play in the future. Certain reasons are always acceptable, many are never acceptable. If you don't think you can stay until the end of your game, DO NOT PLAY. If you must leave before the end of your game, FIND A SUB. You can locate ready to play subs in the vent sub channel.
- You should also have at least 25+fps to play, because laggy players are not able to play properly. In addition, your ping should generally be under 150ms, for the above reason.
- It is usually advised to restart your computer before play, as it reduces the chance that you will unexpectedly drop from the game. Please do this before joining vent at the meet up time.
I think that sums it up. If you have anything you'd like to add, feel free to say it below.
