Months back, and I'm thinking like summer of last year and prior, I
enjoyed the TF2F servers quite a bit. Many players played on it daily
and a lot of us knew each other, and it was all a lot of fun. It seems
now that it's just not the same, and there could be a number of things
contributing to it.
Stats may not be a big deal, but I personally loved the servers with
the HLstatx and it makes playing on the servers a whole lot different.
We sort of have the psychostats now, but imo, it's really not as clean
or neat as the HL statsx, and the page is hardly promoted considering
there's not even a link to it anywhere on the website.
I'm pretty sure we just had regular server with the hlstatsx, and
that's it. We didn't have any mods and any edits to the server, and it
was very nice and simple. It worked too.
Other than the stats, the servers are crashing more constantly and it's
just a bit bothersome to have to deal with a crash almost daily now. I
know the mods likely contribute to the crash, but how necessary are the
mods. All these mods are changing what TF2 was meant to be, and how it
was meant to be played. Going from removing the crits to even removing
"random damage", I mean come on. Those things are mainly for the
competitive environment. What normal pub players are really going to
notice a difference in "random damage". I never honestly even knew
anything about it until people complained, and I still don't notice a
difference.
Even if there is such random damage or crits, they're in the game
likely because that's how the developers felt the game should be played.
Again though, I'm not sure if anyone feels the same way about this as
me in that the servers were much different last year, than they are
now, but I thought I'd bring this up because I seriously enjoyed
playing in the servers from Jan 2008 to about summer about that summer,
but since then it's changed. I don't even play in the servers as much
because of how much it's changed and how different it is now.
Also, if anyone has an answer as to why Hlstatsx was removed, I'd be
curious to know why. It was fun sometimes to pop online at school and
check the server information and you could see who was playing in which
servers and how they were doing etc... Yet alone, the stats motivate me
to play in the servers because I want to improve and I can see changes.
Yes, I realize there was a slight discussion on stats in servers, but I
never gave my input there, and for those who don't want to use it they
don't have to, but at least they would only benefit the servers for the
players who do enjoy viewing them daily.
