A recent spell in Gravel Pit had myself thinking about the use of team auto-balance in maps.  Like most players I had found team auto-balance to be one of the essential things to having a fair game considering most players like to stack one team and just rampage others with auto balance off.  Which in the end doesn't make much sense for the individual as it wouldn't increase ranking or team work in any way really (at least on a larger scale).

But what happens when a person switches teams to even out the player difference and not necessarily the score.  The influence of just one more player to these games always seems critical, especially if they know what they are doing.  Does it create any sense of betrayal for the other team? (Players switching teams can always point out where any hidden sentry guns are).

It would be interesting to hear everyone's stories on their experiences with team balance and how it has effected their play and their teams play.  What do people recommend and how often do they go to ranked maps with auto-balance off?

if the auto balance is off and one team has 14 players and the other has 1 i always change teams to the underdogs. If my team is winning and suddenly the other team switches to mine (which really pisses me off) i either change and kill them or i don't bother and just carry on.
BTW
thanks for adding me rednut!

I prefer team balance on games, however I'll play in an unbalanced game if it is a map I like and there is nothing but 2Fort in the balanced games.
Unbalanced games can actually be great fun, because it is a great challenge, and it is not impossible to win even when outnumbered 2:1 as long as the other side are newbies.

What often happens is, if you make a good showing on the small team, then players join you and it evens up.

However I have also seen games where everyone drops from the small team and leaves the game, or joins the big team. I sometimes do this to make a point about the stupidity of playing 10 against 2 or something. Hardly a fun challenge!

Usually, if I find myself on the big team I will switch to the small team. I don't consider it a betrayal -- it's what would happen automatically in a balance on game.

I like auto-balance but I think it's retarded the way it works. I mean, one team is getting its ass kicked so people start leaving. Then, the few people the losing team can kill, are statistically more likely to be the less good players. So, the less good players are the ones who usually get moved to the losing team. So, the good team gets better, and the bad team gets worse. Stupid.

I don't know.
There has been a lot of trouble linking to the EA servers. The machine sits there with the little circle thingy going round and round. Maybe it has linked to the game without letting me see it.

Sometimes I am in the game and have to do something like take a leak, or maybe answer a phone call. I know it's bad for the team so I usually try to get my character in a corner facing the wall and try to get back to the game soon. I don't know if it's better to stay in the game inactive for a couple of minutes or to drop out and hope some other player will join. (Because maybe noone would.)

That doesn't often happen though.

I was surprised not to see more complaints about the EA network recently.
It seemed to be down on Thursday and Friday last week, and on Monday. Up again yesterday then down again and up again today. Or something.

EA can't manage to keep it up!

I hate when I get team-swapped because I'm usually defending as engie. I see our defense on the other team and say "I worked on that so I could die from it?"

Someone told me today there is a bug. If you have too many people in your friends list your account can't connect to the EA server. I deleted about 8 people with whom I have never exchanged messages (or for over a month) and I was able to connect very nicely.
