Team Fortress 2 Pyro Update Week, June 16

Valve today announced a set of new releases for Team Fortress 2, the title named Multiplayer Game of the Year by PC Gamer and Gamespy.com.

The main event of the week is the Pyro Update, which will be made available this Thursday and contains three unlockable new weapons for the Pyro plus 35 new achievements. In addition, two user-created maps are included to highlight the great work being done in the community and distribute those works to all TF2 players..

Meanwhile as folks wait for the Pyro Update to be released, the latest in the "Meet the Team" video shorts, "Meet the Sniper," will be made available tomorrow (Tuesday, June 17) at 11 am PDT along with a web site dedicated to the Pyro update.

Finally, to give everyone a chance to try the new weapons and community maps, Valve will hold another Team Fortress 2 Free Weekend via Steam beginning this Friday at 11 am PDT.

That's awesome news. I'm in suspense as to what they'll be!!!

Awesome! I can't wait for the pyro stuff! Unfortunately, it'll lead to a complete overpopulation of pyros on servers.

Any word yet about whether or not the pyro unlocks are achievement based? I certainly hope that they are not.

Sweet, looking forward to this! I'm glad that they'll have the info about the pyro updates tomorrow, so we aren't completely clueless until it actually comes out. Can't wait for the Meet the Sniper video, too.

I'm actually really surprised and pleased about them distributing to custom maps. I really wonder which ones they are. Will they be a couple of crazy ones, or something more straightforward (but still awesome) like Turbine or Mach4? I'd guess they would be CTF maps, because Valve's two official CTF maps haven't been that great. Haha, that's kind of cheap. They've failed to come up with a good CTF map so far, so they could just take the best community ones! (I'm just being facetious, it's still awesome.)

What exactly is this Free Weekend?

I'm nearly 100% certain the custom maps are going to be Steel and Redstone.
