Laptops are absolute crap for any sort of gaming if anything.

They can be decent, but they cost a lot more than a normal computer with similar specs would (and are also pretty chunky).

If the computer is FOR gaming, dont get a laptop. If you just want to game every now and then, and have a reason to get a laptop, go for it.

you'll pay a lot more for a laptop than a desktop.
id even go as far as saying, buy a desktop, then if necessary, use a remote desktop program to play it on a laptop (i havent tried this, so i dont know how laggy it would be, but i presume it would work well)

It would have significant lag, but the bigger problem would be the compression and low frame rate due to network limitations.

Thanks for your replys guys.

It seems most of you think i should get a desktop but im wanting to get a laptop because i need it for things like homework, surfing the internet, dvds and other things while i am not in my house. My budget is about 500-700 pounds. I must be able to find some laptop that plays tf2 with decent graphics. As long as its not laggy....

About a year ago i replaced my old desktop with my laptop and settled on a dell 1520, cost me just under $1700 NZ, or about double what a similar desktop would have cost. it plays tf2 fine, mainly because i did a lot of research into the performance of the available laptop 3d cards.

If you do decide to go for a laptop, make sure you do plenty of research, and feel free to ask people's opinions on this site, there's a few guys here that really know their stuff.

And just remeber, nothing beats playing games while sitting up in bed or while relaxing on a lazy boy

Get a huge ass processor. That's all I can say because that's the bottleneck to my otherwise glorious system (on valve games anyway).

I play on a laptop (about a couple years old, was expensive then).
I run everything on low, with m0re's config and it plays fine.
Other games tend to get pretty choppy though. If you're going for a laptop be sure to get one with the highest available specs in whichever area you will be needing it. I think in this case the processor as drake said.
