I have found out recently that stikies are not a very reliable weapon at times, as enemy wepaons, including the smg, sniper, rocket launcher, minigun, pistol etc. can blow them away, displacing your best laid plans veryfast especially with explosives. You may wish to be prudent and hid your sickies on roofs or in pipes / scenery etc. to avoid this major irritation

This isn't really a big deal because honestly the Demoman is pretty damn powerful. He nearly 1 shots most classes with a single regular grenade from his launcher. The sticky bombs just need a little strategy.

Stickies aren't unreliable, it's all in placement. They're meant as traps and not for attacking really. Stick them on ceilings, sides of doorways, etc. Just not on the floor where everyone can see.

yeah i normally place stickys on the sides of doorways so by the time they see them they're done and dusted.  So far ive encountered alot of times of laying 3-4 stickys in a pathway will totally shut down people heading that way because they dont know they can shoot them.  But its only a matter of time till the noobs will know what to do in that situation and all demo's will need to be lining the walls and ceilings of doorways to get sticky kills.

Now if they only got rid of the detonation delay out of the barrel, stickys would be a reliable cqc weapon for the demo.

I pretty much either watch my stickies at all times,or have them laid out at a cap point, and I always keep my gun reloaded,so if they do get blown away, right click(hell they might even kill something)and relay them. Also most people will ignore stickies in cap areas if the demoman isn't around or don't have time to blow them away.

On Capture Point maps, I like to leave one or two them at all of the points [or whatever ones I can get to without dying], find somewhere else that's safe, and wait until the enemy tries to capture [by watching the capture point boxes] and then detonate them. Like you said reaper, people tend to ignore them if you're not around... you'd be surprised at how easy it is to kill this way.

Sometimes, of course, people will move them with rockets or other explosives, but not always.

It's good on granary...if there's a lot going on in the middle cap area, people try to bumrush the middle point.... wait for the box to start changing and detonate it. Stops the cap and kills anyone on it.

Same goes for 2Fort, as well. Leave them near the desk [behind it is good, but also on the inside doorways and maybe a "trail" to the doorways] and as soon as someone grabs your intel, detonate it. Easy kill, and stops the flag runner.

I tend to leave the cap point to engineers on 2fort,plus I'm usually busy jumping around to instantly right click and protect the flag. I've taken up a new hobby, laying the bridge with mines on the enemy side, completely stops their forward rush under the bridge. This works exceptionally well with the new overpowered pyros, who will sit on the other side of the bridge like a bunch of dumbasses so you can lob grenades at them. Problem is the grenades are detonating on contact like they used to,so this is generally just a waste of ammo....still,funny when a heavy or someone comes along and runs straight into it,or when they try and sacrifice(rofl)themselves so the other people built up on the far end can go across. When they do this just lay your end with 3-5 sticky bombs in a sort of cluster and then fire grenades down the bridge at them, will almost always nail you at least one more kill.

They do get wise to this after awhile though, and then the entire rush goes through the sewers, where then then proceed to flank you,so watch your back.

GJ Vylotism, those were really good tips.
So Mandible, do you really still think sticky bombs aren't that good?
I think enough people have made their point.

Very good tips, and I don't doubt the sticky bombs power.. but for some reason, when I fire some they seem to shoot of in the opposite direction e.g I'll fire at a wall in front of me and they'll go sideways... Is anyone else having this problem? it's a bit annoying when you're fighting someone and your bombs don't even go towards them... :\
