Pop quiz hot shot!

The dead are coming back to consume your flesh! What do you do?

Since we all know gamers shall inherit the earth in a zombie apocalypse, lets help each other out with useful info and plans. (and so we don't derail RL mugs2.0)

EDIT: For those too damn lazy to read the thread: This is where to discuss your plan to survive a zombie apocalypse. Zombies are just like the one's from '04 Dawn of the Dead. The military has had no success in thwarting the spread of the virus. Total anarchy, and the collapse of society is the current state of the world.

First thing's first. Where are you when this happens? Are you already conveniently located in your fallout anti-zombie shelter? Or are you buying milk at a grocery store?

If you're already in your fallout shelter, turn that radio on and wait it out. Most zombie outbreaks will be resolved quickly. Assuming it's an apocalyptic outbreak, you've got a couple options:
    1. Wait it out as long as possible, reinforcing your hideout, and going out during the day ONLY IF ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
    2. Take a chance and try to rescue friends/family and make way to a safer location.
    3. Go out and hunt zombies. For entertainment and altruistic purposes.

If you're in some random public place, and assuming this is a massive apocalyptic outbreak, you have to GTFO. Don't go to your car. That's useless. If you've got a motorcycle, it will have better mobility and is a good temporary choice to make it to your anti-zombie fallout shelter. Once you get back to your shelter, see above.

If you can't make it to your shelter, you must find the safest possible location to hold out. This means an easily defended location in an unpopulated region. This also means it can provide certain necessary supplies such as food, water, communications, etc.

Be sure to avoid hospitals, police stations, gas stations, etc.

Id rather go with a .22 wih extra banana clips. Sure its not as powerful, but its even MORE common. I wouldn't go all the way .22 though, someone on the squad would have to have something more powerful. If only they made .22 Cherry PIE..........

Looks like we need to "reanimate" that zombie thread.
I would never ever EVER trust my life to a .22. Unless the gun fired them at over 10,000 rounds per min.

GIT IT??!?!??!1/11?
To go even farther down the road of firearms...and boredom...

Just say you were in a world where you need a gun (not zombies specifically) for defense against humans and animals, a .22 wouldn't quite do it.  Your typical rim-fire .22 long round doesn't pack that much power.  Trust me on this one, I've easily shot 1000's of .22 rounds from rifles and pistols.  Could you kill a person with it? Inefficiently.  That round is small and doesn't fly with much speed and therefore doesn't give it much penetrating power.  It's also awful for hunting any sort of animal.  About all that you can kill with it are semi-tame small rodents and birds because of the penetration issue.  Also, due to the lower speed, hunting those twitchy rodents and birds is almost impossible anyway because they hear the noise and jump out of the way before the bullet gets there.  Again, I've done this presonally so many times i know this from experience.

If you want to talk about pistols you would be best off going for something in .45 ACP (don't confuse that with .45 long colt)  or  9mm.  Those are two of the most common handgun rounds in existence (along with their respective guns).  Glock 9mm and Colt 1911M1A are probably two of the most common guns as well.  Another good bet would be to go for .38 special  or .357 mag.  Those are two very common rounds as well, but the 357 primarily only exists in revolvers.  A .357mag (gun) can use .38 specials perfectly.

Rifles...there are quite a few common rounds, but things that chamber .223 .25-06 .30-06 .30-30 7mm are all very common.  But 7.62mm with the ak-47 would be popular along with 5.56mm which is also used for many military rifles.

But probably the most versatile gun is the remmington 870 shotgun.  The 12ga shell is probably the most common shotgun round in existence and the gun itself is very common. This is the gun that many hunters have along with many police carrying this thing.  The would be no shortage of hardware.

lol lol i wrote a bunch of shit

I'm in college with several other gamers on my floor. I'd have a good party going, but I'd be in the middle of a city. I'd say I have a decent, but not great chance of making it out of the city.

This is solid advice on locations to avoid.

Another good choice for a multi-purpose firearm is the the Beretta CX4 Storm Carbine. It gives you better range than a handgun (130 yards+, well in the range of most urban combat), it can use Beretta handgun magazines, it can be adjusted for left of right hand users, and it's small and light (13.3" and 5.69lbs.). If you pair it up with the Beretta 92fs (the sidearm of the U.S. military, and most law enforcement) you only have to carry one type of ammunition, and the magazines are interchangeable.  As a bonus you can buy 30 mags for the 92. Beretta also has a solid rep for making reliable, quality products as well.

I'm also partial to the FN-P90 and FN-FiveSeven pair. Same ammo (with great ballistics), but different mags. Sadly, the 5.7x28mm is not a commonly found caliber. Gun shops don't stock much of it.

I strongly favor 9mm over other handgun calibers for the same reason America's military switched from .45acp to 9mm. Lower recoil and higher mag capacity= more successful hits. Plus you can carry more.

Stop posting about guns. I'm very interested but too poor. I love the P90.

EDIT: And I love .50 caliber hand guns, despite their impracticality.

EDIT2: Speaking of impracticality.

My thoughts exactly. Get a boat, some fishing equipment, solar cells for whatever electronics, buddies, etc, and enjoy a life of seafood.

Getting into a boat would be a first step, but you can't honestly live on a small boat...unless it's a luxury yacht. But if it's a yacht, that thing eats fuel and power like crazy.

The zombie survival guide recommends getting to an off-shore oil rig. Excellent protection and can provide regenerating power for months.
