The pyro in essence WAS a newb class, just click and run around, respawn, click and run around and so on. NOW he has a few more tools to make himself more useful and to defend himself with.
-The only damage you could do was when you were 5 feet away, then you would get punched or hit with a bat, then the enemy you set on fire would run off and find a health pack and be back in the game.
-At a distance of more than 10 feet you were entirely useless and defensless against ranged classes.
-The only thing the Pyro WAS good for was pushing back a number of people for a few seconds, and occasionaly the pyro could kill off a group of people but anyone with a level head knew they had a few seconds to pull out thier secondary and finish of the pyro, and still have time to find a health pack or medic before they died.
Now he can defend himself against demos and soldiers, probably the most harmful to a pyro. The compressed air blast cannot push back a volley of rockets due the a slower firing rate that the rocket launcher meaning that out a 4 rocket barrage the pyro can at best blow back 2 or them. And just like how the pyro has/had to ambush the soldier(or any class) the soldier now has to ambush the pyro for effectivness. And the shotgun, still powerful if used right, is just as much if not more effective now against the pyro.
The back burner is kinda OP'ed but i think the pyro does need somekind of reward for amushing a enemy from behind. Kinda like the Spy's knife.
The flare gun is fun to play with but is used for a tool to make enemies retreat, not an effective killing weapon.
Havent unlocked the Axtinguisher yet so I can comment.
As for the Soldiers Splash Damage removal, I cant complain, I dont play him enough to notice a difference.
