The pyro in essence WAS a newb class, just click and run around, respawn, click and run around and so on. NOW he has a few more tools to make himself more useful and to defend himself with.

-The only damage you could do was when you were 5 feet away, then you would get punched or hit with a bat, then the enemy you set on fire would run off and find a health pack and be back in the game.

-At a distance of more than 10 feet you were entirely useless and defensless against ranged classes.

-The only thing the Pyro WAS good for was pushing back a number of people for a few seconds, and occasionaly the pyro could kill off a group of people but anyone with a level head knew they had a few seconds to pull out thier secondary and finish of the pyro, and still have time to find a health pack or medic before they died.

Now he can defend himself against demos and soldiers, probably the most harmful to a pyro. The compressed air blast cannot push back a volley of rockets due the a slower firing rate that the rocket launcher meaning that out a 4 rocket barrage the pyro can at best blow back 2 or them. And just like how the pyro has/had to ambush the soldier(or any class) the soldier now has to ambush the pyro for effectivness. And the shotgun, still powerful if used right, is just as much if not more effective now against the pyro.

The back burner is kinda OP'ed but i think the pyro does need somekind of reward for amushing a enemy from behind. Kinda like the Spy's knife.

The flare gun is fun to play with but is used for a tool to make enemies retreat, not an effective killing weapon.

Havent unlocked the Axtinguisher yet so I can comment.

As for the Soldiers Splash Damage removal, I cant complain, I dont play him enough to notice a difference.

Tired of people (Soup and Leadface) thinking it's more effective than the shotty.  It's only good use is for entertainment and disabling snipers.  (Which can also be done with the shotty.)

Oh it makes a huge difference. I killed myself around 12 times today.

The fireball taunt is kind of like that, although its quite risky. The backburner IMO is overpowered with the health ...the crits in itself are very deadly, and 50 health allows a pyro to tackle a whole bunch of enemies head on and not even be fazed. So in that regard I will say it is overpowered.

For the backburner, I feel it should not crit regurlarly, like most situations dependent crit weapons, and also the health should be taken away. You see pyros charging straight at soldiers etc. and coming out on top, thats not right, especially as the weapon itself rewards ambushing.

Also, please can people stop making these threads, there are enough of them now

You might as well say "I think the Backburner should be removed from the game". If all that stupid thing had to it was back crits, it would be a big pile of worthless. The reflect is more useful to the pyro in general, and to his team. The extra health makes the choice to use the BB somewhat justifiable over the normal flamer.

Without that, there would really be no reason to use the BB. The reflect is simply better, and I'm crap at using it. For anyone who is actually good at timing the reflect, the choice would be a no-brainer.



What I like about the pyro unlocks is that unlike 2 out of 3 medic unlocks, the pyro weapons are not outright superior to their alternates (save for the Ax). The normal flamer and the BB both have distinct styles of play that they encourage, the Flare Gun grants the pyro long-range pest ability but removes his mid-range finisher. This is quite different from the medic where the vampire gun is just superior to the normal needler in every way possible, and the Ubersaw is just blatantly more powerful than the normal bonesaw due to the 25% charge per HIT.

I think it's really weird that the pyro can have more health than the soldier.  I'm not talking about balance or whatever, I just think it's fundamentally weird.

I vote that the health bonus be taken down to +25 and the damage falloff for the flamethrower be put back in.  (Maybe not to 25% at the end but 50%)

Perhaps have the Backburner instead of giving extra health give him extra speed; making ambushes and escapes easiser without overpowering the pyro in direct combat. I do agree that the backburner should have something besides back-crits because of the usefulness of the Air Compressor.
