9 classes.
Pyro is gimped in competitive play.
Heavy is sometimes used in comp., but rarely in any frag video or demo I've ever watched.
Spy relies on a player's ineptitude, so he's for the most part out.#
Engineers are used on GPit, sometimes. That's the only time I've seen them used in any frag video or demo.

Medics heal people. They kill when they hav to, but would rather not.
Snipers are sometimes used, but unless they're aimbot like they're vulnerable at close range.

Soldiers are well rounded. Not too strong, not too weak.

Scouts and demomen. The only 2 classes that are arguably overpowered in some way. If you took a demoman and a scout of perfect skill and put them together, who would come up trumps? Would it always be the case, or could the odds be turned depending on the terrain/ location (and assuming both players have topped up HP). Which one is the afformentioned wrecking ball of doom?

Demoman by a mile.

Demos have a higher skill ceiling than Scout, arguably the highest skill ceiling out of all 9 classes. They can do more damage than either Scout or Soldier, and have a much larger clip size for projectiles. They can ace a whole team.

The main advantage of the Scout is he moves quickly and erratically, and have a hitscan weapon that does lots of damage. This makes them opportunistic attackers, their priority is to kill a key target (the fucking medic). The Demo's main objective is to destroy the whole fucking team, which speaks volumes in itself.

I disagree, a good scout will be able to 1v1 a demo of equal skill level 80% or more of the time.

You have to factor in self damage from the explosives which can screw a demo man out of a 1v1 a lot.  1 point blank pipe + meatshot from scattergun the scout will walk away with 10 hp the demo dies.

Yeah of course Scouts out-DM Demos.

The point I was making that in a 6 on 6 team format, the Demo is best suited for killing shit. Better suited than a Scout.

However, he asked "If you took a demoman and a scout of perfect skill and put them together, who would come up trumps?"

Well, a "perfect" demo would never miss a pipe, so the demo would win, or maybe stalemate each time from self damage (since the scout would never miss)

A "perfect" scout would dodge every pipe though, well maybe not at point blank range.

Hm, this is an interesting problem. A paradox perhaps?

The perfect demo could predict anything another player would do, but the other player would predict that, but the demo would predict that and so on.

I think demo v demo, this paradox can conclude with neither demo hitting a pipe, because once a pipe is airborn, the demo that fired the pipe can no longer make adjustments to his aim/prediction. So, theoretically the opposing player should have time to get out of the way.

So, scout v demo, the scout will win, because the demo cannot dodge hitscan weapons.

that said, if the range is close enough, pipes cannot be dodged, leading back to the stalemate situation. however, if the starting range is that of ammomod, the scout should win every time.

good times
