I had this sitting around, and thought I'd post it. An addendum to the list, I found a few bands since I made this list that deserve a top 20 spot, better yet a top 10, for thier talent and musicianship. Two of those are Behold... The Arctopus and Blotted Science. Some of the bands on this list may not be very good "Dr Acula" but they're bands that have stuck with me for a while and I enjoy them. The two that I just mentioned along with the first 3 on the list are by far the most talented group of musicians in the metal scene today.
All of these bands can be found on myspace. Give them a listen.
1.
Between The Buried And Me Quite Possibly the most talented bunch of guys I've had the opportunity of listening to. The video at the top of the page is a video from their live concert. Listen To "White Wall" my favorite song from my favorite band.
2.
The Faceless I found out about these guys listening to Pandora radio (online radio that defines stations by the sound of a band as opposed the the genre.) An amazing metal band to say the least. Listen and see what I mean.
3.
Ion Dissonance In my opinion, their first two albums (breathing is irrelevant, and Solace) are the definition of tech metal. Listen to OASD. You can find some of their earlier stuff
here to the right.
4.
Beneath the Massacre You want a crazy fast audio assault? Here is by far the fastest sensory overload. The guitarist wails harder than a ninja on a pirate, and the drummer, faster than the ninja behind you will assassinate you.
5.
Dillinger Escap Plan They are the definition of Math Metal. Their rhythms are complex and layered, and their live performances, jaw dropping. If you have the chance to see them, you should. It will be a show you will never forget. "Fix Your Face" and "Panasonic Youth" are = win.
6.
The Red Chord The drummer plays so fast, he only wears boxers at live shows. Then they have to mop up his sweat afterwards. One of my favorite bands, and some good quality metal. Check out "Dreaming in Dog Years". Fun song.
7.
The Acacia Strain Heavy as hell. Listen the album 3750. Their breakdowns will blow you away.
8.
The Black Dahlia Murder My Favorite black metal band. IT NEVER STOPS. There's no break in rhythm and tempo. It just keeps up the beat, so if you're speeding down the interstate doing 40 over the speed limit, and you want something to get your blood pumping and drown own the fuzz? Pop in some BDM.
9.
Job For a Cowboy Straight up some of the best metalcore you will find.
10.
See You Next Tuesday One word. Grind. The Song "8 dead 9 counting the fetus" says it all.
11.
All Shall Perish Another band I was just introduced to with their new album. The first song says it all. I love their music.
12.
Winds Of Plague A lot of my friends didn't like these guys. IDK why. Great band, with a unique style. They sound derivative from the orient.
13.
On Broken Wings What we call a breakdown. The first song "Maybe the Earth is Flat" opens with a breakdown then at 1:04 breaks down the breakdown, then again at 1:27, then again at 1:40, and yet again at 1:51, and then a throwback... to the heaviest of them all at 2:10, then an accelerando to.... you guessed it, another breakdown at 2:44. This is a great headbangers band.
14.
As Blood Runs Black A great up and coming metalcore band. They've released their first album, and are currently working on their second.
15.
Cattle Decapitation You heard of Death Metal Country Music? Neither had I til I listened to these guys. More Grindcore yay!
16.
Mychildren Mybride I didn't remove their CD from my car stereo for 3 months after I first got this CD. Yes, "HEADSHOT" is about Halo. (listen to the words) Christian Band believe it or not, and some good old school hardcore.
17.
Necrophagist You want some good death metal. These guys got you covered. They came to Denver not long ago and did a great show.
18.
Dr Acula LISTEN TO "SHOCKER ON SHOCK STREET" Roflmao? These guys will make you go "WTF?" Yes, their first album IS named "Below Me".
19.
Impending Doom Another GREAT death metal band. Yes they're christian too, but some of the best new Death Metal on the scene.
20. Born of Osiris LISTEN TO "ABSTRACT ART" Last and most certainly NOT least, this band has some of my favorite rhythms. Such as the opening to Abstract Art. Also, they have a new record coming out next month, check out their new tracks on myspace. Now these aren't all the bands I like so here are a few honorable mentions:
