So I know we like to uber demos for sentries, pyros for assaults and counterattacks and heavies for holding or taking ground. When if ever do you like to uber soldiers? I used to uber them early in my medic career but now there always seems to be another class that needs the uber more, so I uber them about as often as I uber spies now (I very occasionally uber a good spy just for fun and a few backstab/sap assists).

What kinds of tactical situations call for an ubered soldier over an ubered pyro/demo/heavy?

When the soldier is a good soldier, and there are no sentries to be taken out. A good soldier can get more kills than an ubered heavy in certain areas, since he can maintain movement speed while shooting.

More mobility and precision in 6v6 situations where you might not have a heavy or pyro.

Soldiers use Kritzes very effectively to clear off cluttered CPs quickly. Plus, it's fun to see all the body parts fly into the air when you wipe out the entire team with a few critical rockets. Sometimes a Heavy or Pyro is just too far away to do damage without having to waste Uber to get up to the objective (like the last CP on the final Dustbowl stage.) Solders can clean out clusters of enemies from a great distance while maximizing damage potential. If you have some good space between you and the ememy, and they're clustered together on a CP or something like that, go with the soldier. Especially with the kritzkrieg.

Soldier ubers suck IMO.

It's only really effective against sentries far away... But still in range...

I always make a little groan whenever I get ubered playing soldier like "Ah I'm going to let this Medic down.."

People might dismiss this as crazy, but if you are thinking about ubering a soldier, chances are you will be better off ubering a scout. Yes, a scout. I always uber a friend of mine who totally owns as scout, he can do a lot of damage because he's far more mobile than the sluggish soldier, and does just as good damage.

A soldier, with only 4 rockets at a time, has a limited capability to do damage. Soldiers are much better for kritzkrieg's. If you are going to uber someone to take out a sentry, pyros or demomen (*sometimes* heavies are good, in short range, because of the knockback), if you just want to kill people, then go with a heavy.

Soldiers can only fire 4 rockets before having to reload. This gives about 6, maybe 7 rockets per uber, and even good soldiers don't hit with rockets all the time. Compare this to the 8 stickies and 4 pipes for a demoman, or the constant fire rate of a pyro or heavy and it doesn't leave much reason to uber a soldier.

However, they can be used effectively for blocking the capture of points if the need be. Of course, you'd probably be better off choosing a pyro, but the soldier's splash damage in such a close environment passes the test. I can't really think of anywhere else you'd uber a soldier, unless its a kritz.

If the soldier is good... an uber will allow a gun to go down, 3-4 enemy players and leaves the combo in a good spot.
