Upgrading BIOS without an OS?

I know it's possible, or at least I'm hoping it's possible.

No floppy disk.
No OS.

I need to make my one computers BIOS go from the current version to an updated one that'll work better.

Whoever can help me gets a free hug. :|

If your BIOS allows booting from USB flash drive, then you can set up a DOS bootable drive. This assumes that the BIOS updating software is meant to be run from a DOS boot disk (I'm pretty sure all are).
I went with this method to update my computer's BIOS and followed this guide.

If your BIOS doesn't support booting from a USB flash drive, then it may be possible to do it from a cd, though I've never done so. Google will help you.

I don't have a USB flash drive. I don't even know what the heck a USB flash drive is

I used the UltraISO, clicked Open and then selected my flashcd.iso
Then I dragged my XPS720-A06.exe(It's a dell auto-installer for bios) up into the upper right big section from the lower right little section.

Did I forget a step or foul up in some way?  Was I supposed to add something in besides that?
