Video and Demo discussion

a thread where you can post your latest demos, ask for or offer advice, or point people to some videos that have some high-quality pyro fragging. 

first off, if you haven't seen it, How to Play the Pyro is required reading.  yes, it's an old vid, made pre-update, so it doesn't have any info on the airblast or unlockables.  but the basic information it presents is still valid.

to kick it off, here's a frag video by a guy named Don Newman that lollers brought to my attention.  mostly he's running around meleeing people, but i would like to point out his use of the airblast.  there are a couple of good reflect kills (one in midair) and he also has a few reflect jumps, where he jumps over an incoming rocket, reflects it into the ground, and launches himself.

Don Newman's video was overall very good, shows some excellent use of the compression blast (something you don't see enough of these days) and his handiness with the fireaxe would make Ninja Dude proud. I think after watching this I'm gonna start messing around with this playstyle and really see the potential for myself.

I think the first question is, “Why so much fire axe?”

How did he airblast rocket jump like that?

if a soldier fires a rocket at your feet, you can jump up and forward, and if your timing is spot-on, the rocket will pass just under you, and you can reflect down and back, allowing you to jump. 

i've done it a couple of times with bots, but i've never pulled it off in a live game.

You can also do this with floor stickies,
There is usualy some demo covering a floor with a stickie carpet.
while he waits around the corner waiting for some sucker to walk that way,
the trick is to jump around the corner and airblast down, if he trigers them you
get a stickie jump if the timing is diferent you either cleared the stickey field
or got your self blown up and cleared the field.

Tbh I don't think this would work if you're playing with good people.

If he's consistent with the blastjumping then I'm impressed (This is the first time ive seen someone else do this, even though ive been doing this since pretty much airblast came out, still cant do it consistently though. I totally made this trick, everyone else seems to have one.)
