Updated my old Dell deminsion 8250 2.4 pentium puter with a new Dell XPS 420 with a quad core q9300 and 4 gig of ram with an ati 2600xt (the old one had a nvidia 5950 ultra) and I'll tell you, the game has changed dramatically--at least graphic and appearence wise.  I had it on medium setting beofre but this is a whole new game.  It's actually 3D now and I see the uber as the solid shiny textures--not just that bland dull red or blue plus there's dead bodies lying everywehere--the old machine never showed bodies--imagine my shock when I saw snipers hanging from the battlements and dead heavies scattered everywhere--things i had no clue were happening because of y measly settings....I loved the game beofre with my old rig...but now....  Woot!

Don't you love it?  My new rig is expected to be delivered tomorrow actually.  I was running a 3 y/o crapper Pentium 4 with 1gig memory and a Radeon 1300X 128.  New rig is probably nothing compared to a quad core XPS (Dell really pwned the gaming market with that system) but compared to my old setup, it should fly.  Im moving up to a AMD 5000+ dualcore, 2gig mem and a GeForce 8500GT 512.  Cheers man, enjoy!

I have an entirely new desktop built in my bedroom just waiting for my PSU to come tomorrow.  Once that baby comes in the mail, oh boy...  Q6600, 4G RAM, 8800GT.  Yeah, boy

Also I'm gonna get a much better graphics card than my current Geforce 6100.

I wouldnt say obsolete per se, but its definitely not a machine Id wanna run modern games on!  =(  A dual core with 2gig minimum of ram and an 8400GS or equivalent (or better) vid card would be considered low-par these days I think for gaming.  My previous system was running a Radeon X1300 Pro and it still got retarded framerates for me.

Well the games I play are:

TF2, COD4, Oblivion, Guild Wars, Counter-Strike

I average about 40-60fps in those games

I'm talking to some friends of mine though, and they are also suggesting I just purchase a new system with better video card, and use my current computer as a media server instead.

They said I could prob get a really good-great gaming system for $1000

How much FPS does a "good - great" system get on TF2 normally?

Ridiculous levels of FPS that make no practical difference because you probably hit your monitor's refresh rate.

And personally, about the only thing a good/great system would do for me is make it so that shooting water doesn't crash my framerate, and that's the ONLY thing that tanks my framerate in TF2.
