I was actually thinking about getting ArmA II for reasons that will be mine alone. I was having doubts about the rumors of bugginess so ... being the idiot that I am, I checked the steampowered forums. This is what I found.

Right ... the developers expect me to believe that FADE ... a piece of embedded software that slowly removes game features over time IF it detects a possible pirated copy ... is NOT DRM?

Wikipedia defines DRM as a generic term that refers to access control technologies that can be used by hardware manufacturers, publishers, copyright holders and individuals to try to impose limitations on the usage of digital content and devices. The term is used to describe any technology which inhibits uses (legitimate or otherwise) of digital content that were not desired or foreseen by the content provider.

I'm sorry, but when the developer feeds his own community this grade of horseshit, it tells me what his priorities are ... or at least ... the kind of logic he uses.

Hmm...this does sound terrible. But after the mass pirating of Demigod, I'm pretty sure every developer is seriously considering adding DRM of some sort. DRM shouldn't exist, but neither should the piracy that makes it attractive.

Well, there's always Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, as far as realistic shooters. That or America's Army 3. But i'd prefer ArmA. Why do people do this?

See 'Demigod.' Worst case scenario right there. They got terrible reviews based on the fact that the game had "latency problems" do to the mass pirating. "World of Goo" also believes that there is massive pirating of its award winning game.

After watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSxiz9yWJfQ i can't help but feel that a cracked copy of this game (to purposefully trigger FADE) would make for some great midnight to early morning lan games.

Looks like developers are always coming up with crazy ways of DRM. This one is actually kinda funny. The only safe place from someone who is FADE'd is the person's crosshairs.
