Again, situational. It would depend on the postion of the enemy team, what classes they were using, Uber or Kritz (for both your Medic and theirs) and the skill/strategy of your teamates/the enemy

All jokes aside you really can't compare. Personally, I'd say the demo has a bit more versatility, but hey, they're both getting new guns so we'll see.
In the meantime, Pro is Pro. I'm sure if an equally matched soldier and demo man dueled it out the score would be fairly even in the end.

Alternatively if the demo can stay alive long enough to spray stickies solly's gonna have a bit of a job.

I'd say soldier. I've never seen a top-level demoman carry a team to success.
Reptile/Seagull carried their team to success multiple times as soldier, but Reptile as a demoman couldn't do the same. Plus the ability to protect the medic is important.

The shotgun alone will win it for the soldier.
