That you have to get everybody in the safe room instead of just one guy if he's the only one standing. Really, i feel kinda cheap when my whole team is down or dead and i just rush to the safe room and win the game. It's dead easy for the first level.. You actually finish the level faster if they just let themselves go down and you rush, then if you have to wait for them in the room. The 2nd level is a bit trickier bc/ the door has to be open, but still. i just came out of a game where i opened the door, (gas can in front of the door, molotov down the hole) and shot some zombies till the gate was open enough, one guy was cought by a smoker, one by a hunter, and both by a boomer, the third was dead already. I killed the hunter and the smoker while i ran up and left my mates behind on the ground with a big load of zombies. I still had to kill 4 or 5 on the stairs but that was it. I went in and the game was over even though i could easily rescue the other guys. The next game start with 4 guys again.. What i would like is that everybody has to be in the safe room. If you're the only one left like i was you can patch up in the safe room and make a plan but you'll have to get the other guys back. In my situation i would've taken some pills and went down again to kill the zombies and get those two guys up, then back to the safe room to patch them up and go get the last person from a closet. You just get rewarded too much for rushing and leaving your mates behind to die. This is all on expert mode ldo.

Yea you've got a point there. But are you sure that you only need one person? I was in the safe room of the first level once (door closed, by myself), but I didn't win until at least one other guy got in there with me. And also, the reason that I was the only one in there was because 2 guys were holding the entrance up top, me and the other noob went downstairs, and he went AFK right outside the front door. There would be griefing if you needed to get everyone in there. But then again, that's what votekick is for.
Edit: Oh, wait. The reason I didn't win was because there were people still up. Ok.
|
Well, if someone died before that, it would make winning impossible. And sometimes it's necessary. Last night my brother and another guy got caught in a rush because some noob shot the car. I was going to save them, but found that I only had 9 health left and the other guy was one bleed out health. I ran downstairs and shut the door. The other two guys were dead and any effort to rescue the last guy would result in my own death. So it would be more difficult to win if everyone had to make it, but there are times when you just can't do it. If a tank came and killed someone just as you were getting read to go, game over. Not very fair and not very fun.

IMO
The more people you get into the safe room alive, the more rewards you get. These rewards could come in the form of ammo, health, pills or even bombs. If you get all 4 players into the safe room, with near maximum health, you deserve a reward. In the last stages of the level, all you have to do is get one person in there alive, and it's all cool. There's no incentive to even rescue your teammates, which there should be.
I would also like to see:
1. More weapons I know this is only the demo stage, but from looking through the posts on the steam forums, these are the only weapons we're going to get. Personally I'd like to see a few more pistols, maybe a flamethrower, melee weapons, a couple more machine guns, etc. Right now the weapons feel a bit barebones.. However, I thing that L4D will get TF2 style updates, with new weapons, new zombies, new levels, possibly achievements.
2. Weapons Scattered Around This was mentioned in another thread. I don't like how the weapons and ammo are kept on a neat little table. This is a zombie apocalypse, there should be dead marines in the streets with M16s, etc. Have a couple guns hidden in drawers in someones apartment, things like that. Sure, have a table full of guns at the beginning, but not halfway through the level.
3. Less Guns to Go Around. Get rid of the infinite supply of machine guns and shotgun at the start of each stage. Maybe only 2 machine guns and 2 shotguns, or even make it random so that sometimes it's 4 shotguns, no machine guns, or 1 shotgun 3 machine guns. Force players to make decisions on who should get what weapon. If not with the first weapons, then definitely with the more advanced weapons.
4. Less Ammo, especially on Expert. The only time I ever ran out of ammo was on the second stage with my submachine gun, and this was solely because I didn't have the dual pistols. This problem stems from having the unlimited ammo stashes at the beginning, and halfway through the level. It's a zombie apocalypse, I want to feel pressed for ammo and scared. Force players to rely on their pistols more, which most of us do already because dual pistols are so damn good.
5. Less Linear Levels. Yeah, we've only got 2 levels so far, but they've been pretty linear. I want to have a bit of choice, particularly when trying to get somewhere in the city. I should be able to choose to go down back alleys or through streets or something like that. We'll see about this when the full game comes out.
6. Survivor Style Gampelay. I enjoy the whole, "Get to the Safe Room" gameplay, but I would also like to see some sort of survival mode. The 4 human players would get about 2 minutes to get ammo, guns, and things like that, very few zombeis during these 2 minutes, but still a few. Then the zombies would be allowed to spawn. The human objective would be to stay alive for however long the timer says, whereas the zombie objective would be to kill them, obviously. If withing 20 minutes the humans survive, they win, and vice versa for the zombies.

Mhm. I largely agree with everything Kraft said. Although there are a couple ways to get outside in the first level, the point still stands.
|
Kraft has a ton of great ideas in his post. I would support everything he mentioned.
|
I don't like how it spawns dead players with half health at the next safe soon. Maybe on normal and advanced, but on expert they should spawn in the red imo.
|
Yeah Kraft sums it up pretty nicely, i especially like less weapons combined with weapons and ammo scattered around. The rewards for getting more people in in great too. This'll also make it a viable tactic to keep one person in the room while another goes to rescue the rest. The person in the room keeps the safe zone clear of zombies for a sefe return. Maybe on expert you shouldn't even respawn.. You can heal yourself, you can get up again quite a few times.. Really, dieng is a permanent thing. Maybe something like 1 person - some weapons and little ammo (maybe 1 or 2 extra pistols) (not even 4 primary weapons, so some guys will have to do it with their pistol for the first part). 2 persons - add 1 or 2 medpacks and some more weapons to choose from (still the 'bad' shotty and/or machine gun). 3 persons - add another medpack and 1 or 2 grenades and 1 'good' weapon, some more ammo, not enough to fill up everybody. 4 persons - add 1 hunting rifle and some pills. plenty of ammo. And yeah, lower the ammo on all weapons, maybe exept the m16. Then you'll really have to fight for your ammo and guns.

I've seen some bad teams where one good person has carried them through to the end, simply because they were able to drop the molotov's at the right moments and almost literally carry the near dead retards on their back. The guy was pretty darn impressive, and is basically my role model for the game. But this is also something I'm wondering about...can the game's AI perhaps target whoever has the most kills of Infected/Special? If you take out the all star killers then the rest of the team needs to step up, and if they can't then you know what happens
