Since I finally earned 1500 dollars from my total savings and jobs, I don't need any help on getting the parts really, but my question is should I choose hackintosh over vista or xp as my primary or try to dual boot vista or xp with osx as my secondary. If you want to understand even more simple, i'm basically asking whether I should choose to use my osx leopard as my primary or secondary. I want to use the one that saves the most time. This is serious because this desktop is gonna be my first desktop in my life besides my old windows 1998 so I really don't want to fudge this up. Serious replies plez preferbly album and dr. chris and other people but as long as you know your stuf its okay.

XP Pro all the way, I never had a need for duel booting but I know that XP will be the fastest for your hardware.

Avoid Vista. Useless, system hog that offers nothing extra over XP Pro other than some pretty shiny 3d GUI stuff that really you won't use that often anyway. My XP Pro SP3 has the Page File at start up around 200 megs. Same system, right after install Vista has a Page File of nearly 1 gig with the same progs running. A senseless waste of money and system resources.

For gaming XP is the only real option, for non gaming then you have a lot of option. Linux, BSD, Hackintosh. Its personal preference and exploration there. Linux is probably the fastest OS with all that pretty fancy crap that slows you down on Vista. Most people can't make the leap to unfamiliar territory though.

Obviously someone hasnt heard of Vista SP1 nor how to configure it correctly.

But for you, fatality, XP is probably the best option unless you buy a really good system and plan on playing crysis with DX10 or use GFWL.

Well I don't know your new specs, but you'll definitely want to go Windows for gaming plus I don't know how well hackintosh works in the first place.  As for which windows to get, that depends on your hardware.  If you've got 2gb of RAM or less, stay away from Vista and go with xp.  Personally, I recommend windows xp pro x64.  That operating system is just lightning fast.  But if you have 4gb of RAM or more, I say just take the plunge into vista.  I'm running vista business x64 sp1 with 8gb of ram and a 3ghz dual core amd processor, nvidia 8800 gts and I'm doing just fine by running tf2 on full/everything settings with a very decent frame rate.  Plus it actually boots up fairly fast.

That has to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever read. The performance gap between XP and Vista is negligible at best. A booting page file is not an indication of performance, either.

I'd say that you should probably go XP/Vista as a primary and OSX as a secondary. XP is a good option, but most of the shiny new stuff to come is coming exclusively to Vista from what I hear.

I mean, if your computer is good, you shouldn't really notice a difference between performance in XP and Vista. That said, I hate Vista due to it's reliance on DRM technology, but that is irrelevant to your dilemma.

Primary: XP
Secondary: Leopard

Seems like that would be optimal.

Honestly, why would you want OSX?  Just get XP.

The real question is, why would you blow all your savings on a computer?  Save up for something of importance.

Why waste the money on OSX? What good will that do you?  There isn't anything that I know of that only runs well on OSX, unless you have an Iphone or something stupid like that.

Vista != resource hog: SuperFetch

The point being that why should an OS leave a bunch of memory unused and doing nothing? It's like leaving a bunch of money in a checking account when you could have it invested and working for you.
